About Rock Your Head

Rock Your Head Festival is one of the most established independent music events in Abruzzo and across Southern Italy. Every summer, at the foot of Monte Bertona, within the Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga National Park, the small village of Montebello di Bertona (Pescara province) transforms into a vibrant hub of music, culture, and community. With free admission, stages tucked into narrow alleys, indie and rock concerts, workshops, and outdoor excursions, the project blends artistic exploration with the regeneration of inland territories.

A festival that breathes life into the village

The Rock Your Head Festival is a summer staple dedicated to independent music that has been enlivening Montebello di Bertona for years. This tiny municipality of about 900 residents in the province of Pescara, located at the foot of Monte Bertona, lies in the heart of the Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga National Park. Born as a grassroots gathering, it has established itself over the years as one of the most fiercely independent events in Abruzzo and, more broadly, in all of Southern Italy.

Music among the alleys

For a few days each summer, the village's historic center becomes a sprawling stage: around twenty musical performances are spread across multiple venues, often starting in the morning, alternating between sought-after bands from the Italian scene and international artists. The program spans indie, rock, electronic, and experimental sounds, with an artistic direction focused on emerging talent and fringe sonic landscapes.

More than just concerts

The festival is much more than a series of concerts: alongside the music, there are creative workshops, hikes along the trails of the Gran Sasso, meditation sessions, and sports activities. The underlying philosophy is that of a community laboratory, weaving together artists, artisans, associations, and citizens to counter the depopulation of small towns and build active processes of socio-cultural regeneration in the area.

Organization and spirit

The event is promoted by the Contratto Sociale APS association, an organization that fosters sociality, mutualism, participation, and a sense of community. Admission is free: the festival is sustained by the work of volunteers, local support, and crowdfunding campaigns, in the absence of stable public funding.

An authentic Abruzzo experience

Attending Rock Your Head means discovering an authentic corner of inland Abruzzo, amidst mountains, stone villages, and starry skies. For those who love independent music and human-scale festivals, Montebello di Bertona is a must-add to your summer agenda.
