The carnival parade in the heart of the Canavese region, featuring masks, entertainers, and children
In the heart of the Canavese region, about thirty kilometers from Turin, the small town of Rocca Canavese celebrates its own Carnival every winter, making it one of the community's most anticipated events. The festival is organized by the Rocca Isoetes association, which is dedicated to promoting the local area and enlivening village life. It is part of the rich tradition of Piedmontese carnivals that, from the famous Historical Carnival of Ivrea to the festivals in smaller villages, color the month of February throughout the Province of Turin.
The heart of the event is the masked parade, which sets off from Piazza Osella in the early afternoon and winds through the streets of the town center to the square behind the town hall. Entertainers, families, and children parade in costume amidst confetti and streamers, in a festive atmosphere that involves the whole village. It is a child-friendly Carnival, designed for families and those who love popular traditions experienced in an authentic way, far from the large crowds of more famous events.
Rocca Canavese stands in a natural basin at the foot of Mount Sepegna, along the course of the Malone stream. The name appears in the Middle Ages as La Rocha, referring to the cliff where the ancient castle once stood—a defensive bulwark of the March of Ivrea that later passed to the Biandrate, the Valperga, and finally the House of Savoy. The village is also known for its stuffed peaches, celebrated by a dedicated festival in the Vauda hamlet. The Carnival adds a moment of collective celebration to this heritage, where the community gathers in the squares of the historic center.
The Rocca Canavese Carnival is not a major tourist spectacle, but a genuine village festival where the value lies in participation. In case of bad weather, activities move indoors to the Le Canavesane gym, where only streamers are permitted. It is the ideal opportunity to discover the authenticity of the small villages of the Canavese and to experience Carnival as a moment of community, characterized by joy and Piedmontese tradition.
For the 2026 edition, the event was scheduled for Sunday, February 15, with a gathering in Piazza Osella from 2:30 PM. From there, entertainers and children paraded in costume through the streets of the center of Rocca Canavese to the square behind the town hall, in an afternoon of celebration organized by the Rocca Isoetes association. In case of rain, activities were planned indoors at the Le Canavesane gym.
Rocca Canavese is located in the Province of Turin, about 35 km from the regional capital. By car, it can be reached from the Ciriè area by continuing towards the Vaude; the center is not far from the motorway exits of northern Turin.
The parade starts from Piazza Osella and travels through the streets of the center to the square behind the town hall. In case of rain, activities are held in the Le Canavesane gym (only streamers allowed, no confetti).
Organized by the Rocca Isoetes association. For information: tel. +39 338 7840662 (Elisa). Participation in the parade is free.
