About Rive Gauche Jazz

The Rive Gauche Jazz Festival brings world-class jazz to the heart of Rome's Flaminio district. Join us for three evenings of free open-air concerts in the shade of one of the capital's most majestic holm oaks in Piazza Perin del Vaga. From June 19 to 21, 2026, coinciding with the Fête de la Musique, this inaugural edition brings together emerging and established talents from the Italian and international jazz scenes in an intimate, communal atmosphere where the audience is invited to bring their own chairs.

Jazz under the Flaminio holm oak

The Rive Gauche Jazz Festival was born in 2026 as a grassroots event, transforming Piazza Perin del Vaga, in the Flaminio district of Rome, into an open-air musical theatre. The event takes place in the shade of one of the capital's most majestic and fascinating holm oaks, an ancient tree that envelops the square, creating an oasis of coolness and serenity—the perfect setting for live music at sunset.

A festival in the heart of Rome

Flaminio is one of the most vibrant districts in North Rome, just a stone's throw from the banks of the Tiber and easily accessible by public transport. In this urban and cultural setting, the festival's first edition offers a vision of accessible, local jazz, deeply rooted in the life of the neighbourhood and open to the entire city. The initiative is a natural addition to the musical tradition of Rome and the Lazio region, offering three evenings of free music to residents and visitors alike.

The programme of the first edition

From June 19 to 21, 2026, every evening from 7:30 PM to 9:30 PM, the stage will feature a rotation of Italian and international jazz ensembles:

  • Friday, June 19 — The Ross Quintet, led by guitarist Rosario Moricca, performing original compositions that blend jazz tradition with contemporary exploration.
  • Saturday, June 20 — The Antonio Floris Quartet, known for their focus on melody and sophisticated harmonies.
  • Sunday, June 21 — A recital by Cuban pianist Ernesto Oliva, «De regreso a la Aldea», a journey through the roots of Cuban dance and tradition.

A free and participatory event

All concerts are free to attend. The organisers have designed the festival as an open and inclusive space: hence the invitation to «Bring your own chair», encouraging the audience to help create a shared gathering place where the square becomes the neighbourhood's living room.

Fête de la Musique

The third and final evening coincides with the Fête de la Musique on June 21, the international celebration that fills streets and squares with free concerts every year. The Rive Gauche Jazz Festival joins this tradition, bringing jazz to the residents of Flaminio and the many enthusiasts who visit Rome for the occasion.

Organisers

The event is promoted by La Maison Rive Gauche and Etablino Caffè Due Fontane, in collaboration with the Istituzione Universitaria dei Concerti (IUC) and with the support of the Department of Culture of the Municipality II of Rome.
