The marathon of the sea and the city, between the seafront and the historic centre
The Rimini Marathon is the great road running festival of the Romagna Riviera. Every spring it transforms Rimini, in the province of the same name (code RN) in Emilia-Romagna, into a capital of running: for an entire weekend the seafront, squares, and the historic Malatesta centre are filled with thousands of athletes from all over Italy and abroad. The start and finish are set at the Rotonda Lucio Battisti, in the Parco Fellini area next to the Grand Hotel made famous by Federico Fellini.
The format offers a distance for every type of runner. At the centre is the marathon over the classic 42.195 km, alongside the 21.097 km half marathon, both competitive and included in the FIDAL calendar. Added to these are the Ten Miles of 16 km, the 8 km Family Run open to all, and the 1 km Kids Run dedicated to children.
The course is among the most loved by marathon runners seeking a personal best: almost entirely flat, it alternates sections along the seafront with sea views and crossings of the historic centre. The route touches symbolic points of the city such as the canal port, the Roman-era Tiberius Bridge, and Viale Tiberio, offering runners a journey between seaside landscape and Rimini's historical heritage.
The logistical and social heart of the event is the Marathon Village, set up between Parco Fellini and the Rotonda Lucio Battisti. Here, bib collection, the exhibitors' expo, and convivial moments with aperitifs and a food area take place, animating the Friday and Saturday evenings, transforming the race into a true city event.
Born in 2016, the Rimini Marathon has grown year after year to become one of the most important running events in Emilia-Romagna, capable of attracting several thousand competitive participants. Beyond the sporting dimension, the event is an opportunity to discover Rimini out of season, between its beaches, its historic centre, and its renowned Romagnola hospitality.
The 2026 edition of the Rimini Marathon took place from Friday, April 17 to Sunday, April 19, with start and finish at the Rotonda Lucio Battisti. The big news was the awarding of the Italian Absolute Road Running Championships, hosted for the first time by the city. The program confirmed the multi-distance format with marathon, half marathon, Ten Miles, Family Run, and Kids Run, enlivened by the Marathon Village with an expo, aperitifs, and a food area. The half marathon was sold out as early as March.
Start and finish for all races at the Rotonda Lucio Battisti (Parco Fellini). The course, almost entirely flat, connects the seafront and the historic centre, passing through the canal port and the Tiberius Bridge.
For the first time, Rimini hosted the Italian Absolute Road Running Championships, elevating the technical level of the competition. The success of the half marathon was confirmed, selling out well in advance.
Rimini is well connected: the train station is a few minutes from the seafront and the Marathon Village, Federico Fellini Airport is a short distance away, and the Rimini Sud/Nord (A14) motorway exit provides quick access to the seafront.
All races start and finish at the Rotonda Lucio Battisti, in the Parco Fellini area next to the Grand Hotel. It is advisable to consult the traffic plan published by the Municipality of Rimini for road closures on race days.
Registration is done online on the official website and through race portals. The half marathon tends to sell out its bibs well in advance: it is best to register early.
