About Rievocando Lucca

Rievocando Lucca is a major multi-era historical re-enactment festival that transforms the famous Renaissance Walls of Lucca into a journey through time every spring. From the Ligurians and Etruscans to the 20th century, re-enactor camps, performances, knightly tournaments, and workshops bring the bastions of this Tuscan city to life. Considered one of Italy's largest historical re-enactment events, it is a free festival that blends education, entertainment, and fun for the whole family.

A two-thousand-year journey on the Walls of Lucca

In the heart of Tuscany, Rievocando Lucca is the festival that annually turns the Renaissance city walls of the Lucca provincial capital into an authentic journey through time. Along the bastions and curtains of the famous Urban Walls, over 800 re-enactors from all over Italy meticulously reconstruct the camps, costumes, weapons, and crafts of more than two thousand years of history, from Etruscan and Ligurian origins to the 20th century. It is one of the country's largest multi-era historical re-enactment events.

The Clock of Time, bastion by bastion

The heart of the event is the route titled The Clock of Time: each bastion of the Walls is dedicated to a different era, allowing you to traverse the centuries simply by walking along the promenade. Etruscan and Ligurian origins come to life at the San Paolino bastion, the Roman age at San Donato, the Early Middle Ages at Santa Croce, the Late Middle Ages at the San Martino and San Pietro bastions, the Renaissance at San Salvatore, the 19th century at the La Libertร  bastion, and the 20th century at the San Regolo and San Colombano bastions.

Performances, tournaments, and demonstrations

Alongside the camps, the festival offers a packed program of shows: the gladiator arena at San Donato, flag-wavers and historical dances at the Sortita San Frediano, falconry at San Martino, jesters at the Casa del Boia, and the Cafรฉ Belle ร‰poque at the Santa Maria bastion. The highlight of both weekend days is the Knights' Joust, the equestrian tournament held at 7:00 PM.

Exhibitions, guided tours, and family workshops

The event is not just about shows: it includes historical lectures, exhibitions, free guided tours of archives, libraries, museums, the botanical garden, and the cathedral, as well as urban trekking routes to discover Roman, medieval, and fortified Lucca. For younger audiences and families, there are horse-related workshops, board and role-playing games, miniature painting lessons, speed painting competitions, historical comic book storytelling, and meetings between re-enactors and school students.

From Lucca Historiae Fest to Rievocando Lucca

Born a few years ago under the name Lucca Historiae Fest, the event is promoted by the Municipality of Lucca with the coordination of Turismo Lucca and has quickly established itself as one of the most important appointments dedicated to history in Tuscany. The editions have recorded a large influx of visitors, confirming the Walls of Lucca as the ideal stage for a festival that brings the city's past to life for citizens and tourists alike.

Rievocando Lucca โ€” edition 2026

The fourth edition of Rievocando Lucca took place from May 19 to 24, 2026, on the Walls of Lucca, with the theme 'The Clock of Time': over 800 re-enactors, camps from Etruscan origins to the 20th century, knightly tournaments, shows, and family workshops. One of the richest editions ever, featuring numerous novelties including a multi-era historical pageant in the city center.

The 2026 edition, the fourth of the event, opened on Tuesday, May 19, at 3:00 PM at the Porta San Donato Castle and continued until Sunday, May 24. The heart of the festival, The Clock of Time, animated the bastions of the Walls on Saturday, May 23, and Sunday, May 24, from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM, with camps retracing over two thousand years of history.

Among the novelties of the edition: horse-related workshops, board and role-playing games, miniature painting lessons and speed painting competitions, historical comic book storytelling, morning meetings between re-enactors and students, and a multi-era historical pageant through the historic center. The great classics were confirmed, such as the gladiator arena, falconry, flag-wavers, historical dances, and the Knights' Joust at 7:00 PM on Saturday and Sunday.
