The summer of theatre, music, and words on the widespread arena of the riviera
Ribalta Marea is the summer review of the Municipal Theatre of Cesenatico, in the heart of the Romagna Riviera in the province of Forlì-Cesena (FC), Emilia-Romagna. Every summer, the festival brings theatre, music, comedy, and education outside the city's theatre walls, transforming some of the most evocative locations in the Municipality into a single widespread arena overlooking the Adriatic Sea.
The heart of the event is the historic Open-Air Theatre of Largo Cappuccini (Arena Cappuccini), an intimate and secluded space that has hosted evenings of spoken word and auteur music for decades. Alongside it, the 2026 edition expands the map of shows to other symbolic locations in the city: Ponente Park, the Comunale Moretti Stadium, and Piazza Spose dei Marinai, chosen each time based on the nature and audience of each event.
The strength of Ribalta Marea lies in the variety of its offerings: monologues of civic and actor's theatre, concerts by established artists and emerging talents of the Italian scene, evenings of intelligent comedy, and appointments for scientific and literary education. It is a program designed for both local audiences and the many tourists who flock to Cesenatico during the bathing season, with constant attention to the quality of the guests.
Fully integrated into the calendar of events for the Municipality of Cesenatico, the festival is organized by the Culture Office and the Municipal Theatre, often in collaboration with entities like Pulp Concerti for major concerts. The now-established formula makes Ribalta Marea one of the most anticipated cultural events of the Romagna summer, capable of combining the charm of open-air performances with the pleasure of an evening just a stone's throw from the beach.
The 2026 edition of Ribalta Marea confirms the widespread arena format, distributing shows across four symbolic locations in Cesenatico over two months, from July 3 to August 23. Evenings of actor and civic theatre, educational events, and major concerts alternate, with a program capable of speaking to both local audiences and tourists of the Romagna Riviera.
Among the headliners are the return of Patty Pravo with her Opera Tour, the transformation and storytelling show by Arturo Brachetti, and the concert by young artist Alfa at the Comunale Moretti Stadium on Ferragosto. The review traditionally concludes with the JuJu Memorial in Piazza Spose dei Marinai.
The schedule may be supplemented with further events announced by the Municipal Theatre during the season.
Cesenatico is easily reachable by car via the A14 motorway (Cesena Nord or Rimini Nord exits) and the SS 16 Adriatica state road. By train, Cesenatico station is on the Ferrara-Rimini line; the nearest airport is Rimini-Miramare, followed by Bologna and Forlì.
