Festival of theatre, arts, and entertainment for families
Ri-Creazione is the festival of theatre, arts, and entertainment that transforms Sant'Agata Bolognese, a municipality in the province of Bologna in Emilia-Romagna, into a large open-air stage every early summer. The event is organized by the Ferdinando Bibiena Municipal Theatre and is part of the Festamobile program of the Metropolitan City of Bologna. The shows mainly take place outdoors, in Piazza dei Martiri, along the streets of the centre, and at the Parco della Mezzaluna; in case of bad weather, performances are moved, when possible, inside the historic Bibiena Theatre.
The heart of the festival is children's theatre: some of the best Italian companies for children's theatre alternate on stage, along with numbers of contemporary circus, puppetry, figure theatre, live music, and soap bubble shows. There are also events aimed at adults and appointments involving local realities, such as the Sant'Agata Municipal Band. Alongside the shows, the festival offers creative workshops for children, educational activities, and moments of shared play.
All Ri-Creazione events have free admission: a choice that reflects the popular and participatory nature of the event, created to bring people back to the squares and to introduce children to the language of theatre and live arts. The final Sunday is traditionally dedicated to a large picnic in the park with courtyard games, a convivial occasion that closes the festival in a light-hearted atmosphere.
The festival is deeply linked to the Ferdinando Bibiena Municipal Theatre, a jewel of theatrical architecture that gives its name to the organizing body and represents a cultural reference point for the entire Bolognese Plain. Through Ri-Creazione, Sant'Agata Bolognese renews its identity every year as a small municipality in Emilia-Romagna capable of building a quality cultural offering, accessible to all and particularly attentive to the new generations.
The 2026 edition of the Sant'Agata Bolognese theatre festival was held from Wednesday, June 3 to Sunday, June 7, with daily free admission events.
The shows took place mainly in Piazza dei Martiri and along the streets of the centre; in case of bad weather, there were planned moves to the Bibiena Theatre.
Sant'Agata Bolognese is located in the Bolognese Plain, in Emilia-Romagna. By car, it can be reached from the A1 motorway (Modena Nord exit) or via the Persicetana road; the centre is about 30 km from Bologna. The shows are held in Piazza dei Martiri, in the streets of the centre, and at Parco della Mezzaluna; the Bibiena Theatre is located at Via 2 Agosto 1980, 114.
All shows are free admission. Events are concentrated in the late afternoon and evening, with workshops and activities for children in the afternoon.
