The festival of rezza and pizzica in the stratodde of San Vito dei Normanni
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
In the heart of summer, San Vito dei Normanni, a town in the province of Brindisi in Puglia, celebrates Rezzica, one of the most heartfelt and well-attended evenings on the local calendar. The festival is built around two symbols of local tradition that give the event its name: the rezza, the typical curtain made of woven wooden slats hung in front of house doorways, and the pizzica, the traditional Salento folk dance marked by tambourines, violins, and singing.
The historic center and its stratodde—the narrow, characteristic alleys of the old town—become the true theater of the event. Small stages, dance circles, exhibitions, and craft stalls pop up throughout the lanes. The rezze are illuminated and decorated, acting as a symbolic bridge between past and present: they recall a time when the streets were an outdoor living room and neighbors met, protected by the woven wood from both the heat and curious eyes.
Pizzica is one of the beating hearts of the evening: live music, improvised dances, and an energy that involves everyone, from young to old, until late at night. Alongside the music, there are street theater performances, buskers, live painting, and installations that tell the most authentic story of the Sanvitese community. Rezzica is not designed for mass tourism, but is a true village festival born from the desire of local citizens and associations.
The gastronomic dimension is not to be missed: along the stratodde, stalls offer the most beloved flavors of Apulian cuisine, from fragrant focaccia to local cheeses, and from traditional sweets to local wine. It is a journey of taste that intertwines with music and craftsmanship in an intimate and convivial atmosphere.
Reaching its fifteenth edition in 2025, Rezzica is much more than an event: it is a collective ritual that unites memory, culture, and social life, where San Vito dei Normanni celebrates its identity in the spirit of the most genuine Puglia. It is an evening to be experienced by strolling leisurely through the alleys, letting yourself be guided by the sounds, lights, and scents of the village.
At the time of writing, the dates and program for the 2026 edition of Rezzica have not yet been officially announced. The event is traditionally held around August 13th in the historic center of San Vito dei Normanni (BR), starting in the evening.
