The June 2nd band concert in Serravalle Scrivia
The Republic Day Concert is one of the most cherished events of the year in Serravalle Scrivia, in the heart of the Alessandria province, Piedmont. Every June 2nd, marking the national holiday that commemorates the birth of the Italian Republic, the Pippo Bagnasco Music Corps takes the stage to offer the community a free concert, open to all.
The Serravalle Scrivia band boasts a long history: its origins date back to 1863. After a hiatus during the Second World War, the ensemble was re-established in 1950 thanks to the dedication of local citizens. Today, the Music Corps is led by Maestro Giuseppe Carlone and presided over by Antonino Bailo. Associated with ANBIMA, the group is one of the most deeply rooted musical institutions in the municipality and has accompanied the town's major civil and religious anniversaries for generations.
The concert takes place on the evening of June 2nd, starting at 9:00 PM, at the Aula Magna of the "Martiri della Benedicta" School, located at Via S. Rocco 1. Admission is completely free, and all citizens are invited to attend.
More than just a concert, the event is an opportunity for the entire Serravalle community to gather. The evening is regularly attended by the Mayor and the municipal administration, representatives of the police forces, veterans' and military associations, religious authorities from the Diocese of Tortona, and numerous residents. The band's music provides the backdrop for a moment of reflection on the values of the Republic and the importance of a holiday to which the population is deeply attached.
The June 2nd concert is part of the rich tradition of Piedmontese musical bands, cultural bastions that have kept the passion for ensemble music alive in small and large towns across the region for over a century. In Serravalle Scrivia, the Pippo Bagnasco Music Corps is an integral part of the local identity, and its Republic Day performance represents one of the moments where this heritage is renewed before the entire community.
