The organ concert series held in the parish churches of Pelago
Registro d'Autunno is an organ concert series promoted by the Corale Don Renzo Mazzoni of the San Francesco parish in Pelago, in the province of Florence. Created to celebrate and showcase these extraordinary instruments found in numerous parish churches throughout the Valdisieve area, the festival brings organ music to some of the most evocative sacred sites in this Tuscan town.
The program unfolds across various places of worship in the Pelago area, each guarding its own unique organ: the Church of San Francesco in Piazza Verdi, the Church of San Martino a Pagiano di Paterno, and the Pieve di San Clemente, an ancient parish church documented since the 13th century and elevated to the status of a pieve in 1413. Each event is an opportunity to rediscover a musical and architectural heritage that is often little known to the general public.
The festival invites master organists whose repertoires span from the Baroque to the Romantic era. Performers in recent editions have included Fabrizio De Vincenzi, Gianpiero Bernini, and Giacomo Benedetti, with programs featuring works by Girolamo Frescobaldi, Johann Sebastian Bach, Domenico Zipoli, Christoph Graupner, Johann Kaspar Kerll, and even transcriptions of Giacomo Puccini.
More than just a series of concerts, Registro d'Autunno aims to promote organ music and offer the public moments of cultural and spiritual enrichment. The festival is coordinated by Rosa Vernieri and reflects the vibrant community and parish life of Pelago, which has long animated the cultural scene in this corner of Tuscany, among the hills separating Florence from the Casentino.
Located along the Sieve river valley, the town of Pelago preserves a rich heritage of Romanesque parish churches, castles, and villages that tell the story of its centuries-old history. The Registro d'Autunno festival is part of a calendar of events that, throughout the year, celebrates the traditions and identity of this area in the province of Florence.
The 2025-2026 edition of Registro d'Autunno, the second installment of the series, featured three events in the churches of Pelago, in the province of Florence, promoted by the Corale Don Renzo Mazzoni of San Francesco di Pelago. The final concert, hosted in the evocative Pieve di San Clemente, featured maestro Giacomo Benedetti, an organist of recognized experience on the Florentine scene. A grand finale of great intensity, combining cultural depth and spiritual reflection.
