The urban downhill mountain bike race through the caruggi and creuze of Genoa
Red Bull Cerro Abajo is the most famous international series of urban downhill mountain biking: breathtaking races where riders descend at full speed through the historic centers of cities, amidst staircases, sharp turns, and artificial obstacles. After previous editions, the event returns to Genoa, the capital of Liguria, once again choosing the maze of caruggi (alleys) and creuze (paths) of the old city as the perfect setting.
The course winds for 2.2 kilometers with an elevation drop of about 279 meters, starting from the heights of Monte Peralto and arriving at Largo della Zecca. Riders face centuries-old staircases, passages between buildings, jumps, and artificial hazards integrated into the urban fabric. It is a test of both technique and spectacle, challenging balance, courage, and terrain reading skills.
The best specialists in the discipline will be at the start, including the winners of recent editions and the big names of the international circuit. Genoa also fields its home favorites, for whom the public reserves special cheering. The race is valid for the circuit and is followed by enthusiasts and curious onlookers from all over Italy.
Beyond the competition, Red Bull Cerro Abajo is a major popular event: access to the viewpoints along the course is free, and the atmosphere is that of great sporting days, with tens of thousands of spectators crowding staircases and terraces to follow the descents. An unprecedented way to experience and showcase the historic center of Genoa, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
The 2026 edition of Red Bull Genova Cerro Abajo is spread over two days: qualifying on Saturday, June 27, and the final on Sunday, June 28. The 2.2 km course with a 279-meter drop connects Monte Peralto to Largo della Zecca, passing through Genoa's historic center.
At the starting gate will be the discipline's top riders, including the winners of the last two editions and a strong Italian representation. The event expects between 35,000 and 40,000 spectators along the track.
Among the announced protagonists: Tomáš Slavík (winner 2024), Roger Vieira (winner 2025), locals Lucas Vega and Francesco Colombo, Hannes Alber, and Colombians Sebastián Holguín and Juanfer Vélez.
Largo della Zecca is reachable by metro (Darsena or Principe station) and by AMT buses; the Zecca-Righi funicular connects the center to the starting heights. Road closures and traffic diversions are planned on event days.
Access to the viewpoints along the course is free. It is advisable to arrive early to secure a good position.
