Dialect theatre, music, and poetry at the Odeon Theatre in Lumezzane
Vers e Ùs — literally "verses and voices" — is one of the festivals most deeply rooted in the cultural identity of Lumezzane, in Val Trompia, province of Brescia. Established in 1999 as a project dedicated to dialect poetry from Lumezzane and Brescia, it has evolved over time into an articulated programme that combines theatre, music, and dialect poetry, hosted in the city's main cultural venue, the Giacinto Prandelli Odeon Theatre.
The festival's aim is the rediscovery and promotion of local language and traditions, in a region with deep cultural roots that has been the birthplace of musicians and the celebrated tenor Giacinto Prandelli. The events involve theatre companies, musical groups, choirs, cultural associations, and volunteer organizations, staging performances in dialect, poetry readings, and musical moments.
The programme spans several months, typically from January to June, with numerous events ranging from dialect theatre to classics reinterpreted in the local language, as well as music and poetry. The lineup alternates between names from the Brescia amateur theatre scene and guest companies, in a schedule designed for the valley's loyal audience.
More than just a festival, Vers e Ùs is a guardian of the linguistic and cultural memory of Lumezzane. Promoted by the Municipality through its Department of Culture, the event keeps alive a precious intangible heritage, making dialect not a relic of the past but a living language, capable of moving and entertaining audiences in Val Trompia even today.
The 2026 season of Vers e Ùs enlivens the Giacinto Prandelli Odeon Theatre in Lumezzane from January to June with a rich programme of dialect theatre, music, and poetry. Among the confirmed events: on January 17, "Non c'è tempo, amore" by the Erminevo Theatre Company (directed by Marianna Sabadini); on February 8, "La nuova colonia" by Luigi Pirandello presented by the Idea Teatro Chiari Association; on February 14, "Paese mio che stai sulla collina" with the Volunteers of Croce Bianca Lumezzane. The festival is organised by the Municipality of Lumezzane.
The festival continues with further dialect theatre, music, and poetry events until June 14. The complete schedule is published on the festival and Municipal website.
