The mask parade and the Golden Fritters Competition
The Quarto d'Altino Carnival is the Carnival celebration of the Municipality of Quarto d'Altino, in the province of Venice. Between February and March, the town comes alive with a mask parade and entertainment for children and families.
A delicious and iconic moment is the Golden Fritters Competition, dedicated to fritoe (fritters), the symbolic sweet of Venetian Carnival. The competition awards the best fritters, in a celebration that combines gastronomic tradition and fun.
A few kilometres from Venice, where Carnival is among the most famous in the world, Quarto d'Altino also preserves its own version of the celebration, more intimate and popular, deeply linked to the community. Masks, sweets, and cheerfulness make the Altino Carnival an eagerly awaited event in the winter calendar of the Venetian area.
