The festival dedicated to the potato by the Pro Loco in Piazza Gabriele D'Annunzio
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Potato Festival is a culinary event organised by Pro Loco Qualiano in Piazza Gabriele D'Annunzio, in the centre of Qualiano, in the province of Naples, Campania. Born as a local square celebration and growing year by year, the event reached its fifth edition in 2025 and is now one of the most popular late-summer evenings in the town's calendar. The organisers present it as a return to basics: plenty of delicious food to taste and good music to enjoy, with no frills.
The potato is one of the most familiar ingredients in Neapolitan cuisine: humble, versatile, and capable of being transformed into first courses, bakes, and fried dishes. The festival puts it at the centre of the table, showcasing recipes traditionally prepared in Qualiano households, served at stalls set up in the square by Pro Loco volunteers and local businesses. There is nothing gourmet here: it is home-style cooking taken to the streets, which is the most authentic essence of a village festival.
The evening is not just about food. The stage set up in the square hosts live music and group dances that involve families, young people, and grandparents until late, in a neighbourhood party atmosphere. The festival also features the Corradino Award, a local honour that also reached its fifth edition in 2025, presented by the Pro Loco during the event.
The festival is traditionally held on an evening in September, with stalls opening around 8:00 PM in Piazza Gabriele D'Annunzio. The 2025 edition took place on Saturday, September 20th. For 2026, the Pro Loco Qualiano has not yet released the official date: it is best to follow the association's social media channels, where the programme and menu are announced.
Qualiano is located a few kilometres north-west of Naples, on the edge of a historically agricultural plain between Giugliano in Campania and the Phlegraean Fields. It is an area where horticulture defined the local economy for decades and where the produce of the land remains a strong part of the local identity. Dedicating a festival to the potato in this context means reclaiming a piece of rural memory and transforming it into a moment of social connection for the whole town.
Those looking for a massive festival might be surprised: this is a village fair, with free entry and concentrated into a single evening. But that is exactly its value. You eat well for a low price, you spend time in the square with the locals, you listen to folk music, and you discover a 'lesser' Campania, the kind found in the towns of the Neapolitan hinterland that rarely make it into tourist guidebooks. A great reason to stop in Qualiano before continuing towards the Domitian coast or the Phlegraean Fields.
At the time of writing, Pro Loco Qualiano has not yet announced the date for the 2026 Potato Festival. Previous editions have taken place on an evening in September, in Piazza Gabriele D'Annunzio in Qualiano, in the province of Naples, with stalls opening around 8:00 PM.
As soon as the date is made official, we will update this page with the full programme, the dishes on offer, and the musical performances of the evening. In the meantime, the most reliable source remains the Pro Loco Qualiano Facebook page, where the event poster and menu are published.
Piazza Gabriele D'Annunzio, 80019 Qualiano (NA), Campania. The event occupies the square and the immediately adjacent streets.
By car: Qualiano is served by the Asse Mediano and the SS7 quater Domitiana, a few kilometres from Giugliano in Campania and about twenty kilometres from the centre of Naples. The event takes place in the town centre: it is advisable to park in the surrounding streets and walk to the square.
Stalls open in the evening, approximately from 8:00 PM. Entry to the square is free; tastings are paid for directly at individual stalls. Price lists are not published in advance.
It is an outdoor evening event: bring a light jumper for the later hours of September. Go early if you want to avoid queues at the stalls serving first courses, which are the most popular.
