The Salento puccia takes center stage on the Adriatic coast of Santa Cesarea Terme
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Puccia Festival is a late-summer gastronomic celebration held in Santa Cesarea Terme, a small town in the Province of Lecce, Puglia, famous for its thermal springs and spectacular views over the Adriatic Sea. The event highlights one of the symbols of Salento's 'cucina povera': the puccia, a soft, flavorful bread baked in a wood-fired oven and filled with simple, genuine local ingredients.
The Salento puccia is much more than a simple sandwich: it is a piece of Salento's identity, born from peasant tradition and now one of the area's most appreciated street foods. During the festival, you can taste it in numerous variations, ranging from vegetarian options to richer fillings:
The ingredients reflect the deep bond with the land and sea of Salento, where vegetables, cheeses, and garden produce create recipes passed down from generation to generation.
Tastings are accompanied by live folk music and performances of pizzica salentina, the ancient folk dance that has marked Salento's summer nights for centuries with the overwhelming rhythm of tambourines. There is no shortage of entertainment for families and children, and spaces dedicated to local crafts, which complete a convivial and festive atmosphere in the heart of the small spa village.
Held in September, as the Salento summer draws to a close, the Puccia Festival is an ideal opportunity to bid farewell to the season amidst authentic flavors, sea breezes, and the enchanting scenery of the Adriatic coast. It is an event that combines food and wine culture with popular traditions, attracting residents and visitors to one of the most evocative locations on the eastern side of Salento. Participants discover not only a typical product but also the hospitality and warmth of a territory that makes conviviality around the table one of its most recognizable traits.
The Puccia Festival returns to Santa Cesarea Terme, in the Province of Lecce, for a new late-summer appointment dedicated to the typical Salento sandwich baked in a wood-fired oven. The dates for the 2026 edition have not yet been communicated: the program will be published by the organizers in the weeks preceding the event. It is advisable to consult official channels and the local press for updates.
