The realm of the Polesine strawberry
The Provincial Strawberry Festival is the historic festival of Salara, a small municipality in Alto Polesine in the province of Rovigo, in Veneto. Dedicated to the region's symbolic fruit, it takes place over several weekends in May and celebrates the strawberry in all its forms, from the table to the market.
Gastronomy and ballroom dancing
The heart of the festival is the well-stocked food stand, managed by the Pro Loco Salara, open in the evening from 7:30 PM and also at lunchtime on Sundays. The menu features traditional Venetian dishes and strawberry specialties: the famous strawberry risotto, bigoli with ragù, pappardelle with duck, mixed grill, and strawberry salad with cream. The evenings are enlivened by ballroom dancing with bands from all over the Northeast, on a dance floor that attracts enthusiasts from the entire province.
An authentic village festival
In addition to the food stand and dancing evenings, the festival offers direct sales of strawberries and asparagus from local producers, walks in the Salara countryside, shows, and performances. Entirely supported by the work of Pro Loco volunteers, it is the identity event of the village and an anticipated appointment for lovers of genuine Polesine festivals.
Strawberry Festival — edition 2026
The 2026 edition of the Provincial Strawberry Festival, the 45th, animated Salara on the May weekends (1-2-3, 9-10, and 16-17). The Pro Loco's food stand, as every year, offered traditional dishes and strawberry specialties – especially the strawberry risotto – while the evenings were marked by ballroom dancing with orchestras. There were also direct sales of strawberries and asparagus from local producers and festive moments for the village.

The three May weekends
- Fridays and Saturdays — food stand from 7:30 PM, ballroom dancing from 9:30 PM
- Sundays — food stand also open at lunchtime (from 12:30 PM) as well as in the evening

How to get there
Salara is in Alto Polesine, near the border with Emilia, between Ficarolo and Ceneselli. About 35 km by car from Rovigo; also convenient from Ferrara.
