Sanguinetto's secret dessert in celebration
The Ancient Festival of Rofioi is the celebration dedicated to the symbolic dessert of Sanguinetto, in the province of Verona, in the Bassa Veronese region. Organized by Pro Loco Le Contrà with the patronage of the Municipality, it takes place every year in September and is one of the most cherished gastronomic events in the area.
The rofiolo is the typical dessert of Sanguinetto: a puff pastry filled with almonds, amaretti, rum, and biscuits, shaped like a raviolo – from which it gets its name. Its origin dates back over a hundred years, when it was created by the so-called 'brigata del Capo di Sotto'. The recipe is jealously guarded and passed down, and the festival has become its official celebration, with the tasting of rofioi among its main attractions.
For several days, the festival offers typical local dishes and rofioi, served under a covered area, accompanied by evenings of live music with tribute bands and various groups. There is also a trade fair, a charity raffle, and on Sundays, a vintage car and motorcycle gathering with breakfast. A festival that celebrates the gastronomic and cultural heritage of Sanguinetto, in the heart of the Veronese Plain.
The 2026 edition, the 47th Ancient Festival of Rofioi, takes place in September in Sanguinetto, according to tradition. Organized by Pro Loco Le Contrà, it offers tastings of rofioi, local typical dishes, live music evenings, a trade fair, and a vintage car and motorcycle gathering. The precise dates and detailed program will be published by Pro Loco Le Contrà closer to the event.
