Profumi, Sapori e Fantasia is one of the summer markets that enliven Macugnaga, a stunning village with deep-rooted Walser traditions in the Anzasca Valley, in the Province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola (Piedmont), nestled at the foot of the east face of Monte Rosa. For an entire day, Piazza del Municipio in the Staffa district transforms into an open-air trail of stalls, where quality craftsmanship meets the flavors of the mountains.

What to expect

The initiative is designed as much more than a simple market: it is a place for meeting and discovery, where visitors can get up close to the techniques behind a world rich in ideas, creativity, and imagination. The stalls feature:

• Handmade crafts, original creations, and gift ideas;
• Typical products and gastronomic specialties from the Ossola region and the mountains;
• Direct contact with artisans, creatives, and small-scale producers.

The setting is that of an authentic alpine village, where Walser culture coexists with the charm of the high mountains: a stroll through the stalls thus becomes an opportunity to visit Staffa and soak up the atmosphere of Macugnaga in summer.

A summer season highlight

Profumi, Sapori e Fantasia is part of the rich calendar of summer events promoted by the Pro Loco of Macugnaga in collaboration with the Arti e Sapori di Nord Ovest association, the same group that curates various themed markets in the village square throughout the season. The day is part of a program that accompanies residents and tourists throughout the Macugnaga summer, featuring alpine craft fairs, creative markets, and food and wine events.

For those visiting the Anzasca Valley and the Macugnaga-Monterosa area, it is a pleasant extra reason to stop in the village: admission to the market is free, and the event takes place in the center of Staffa, easily reachable on foot.
