About Primiero Carnival

Every February, the Primiero Carnival brings the town center of Fiera di Primiero and the village of San Martino di Castrozza to life within the municipality of Primiero San Martino di Castrozza, in Trentino. Featuring parades of allegorical floats, colorful masks, costumed slalom races by ski instructors, face painting, children's workshops, and traditional town square celebrations, this popular event unites families, residents, and visitors in the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage Dolomites.

Carnival in the heart of the Dolomites

The Primiero Carnival is one of the most anticipated winter folk festivals in the Primiero valley, located in the municipality of Primiero San Martino di Castrozza, in the province of Trento, Trentino-Alto Adige. Each year, between the end of winter and the first light of spring, the historic center of Fiera di Primiero and the renowned ski resort of San Martino di Castrozza fill with masks, confetti, allegorical floats, and music, creating a celebration that involves both young and old against the backdrop of the Pale di San Martino.

A festival between town and ski slopes

The uniqueness of the Primiero Carnival lies in its dual nature: on one hand, the traditional town parades with allegorical floats winding through the streets of Fiera di Primiero and the square festivities; on the other, the snow-based events that leverage the area's tourism and sports vocation. The ski instructors from the local Ski School in San Martino di Castrozza put on spectacular costumed slalom races on the Prà delle Nasse nursery slope, accompanied by music and entertainment, in a unique blend of folklore, tradition, and mountain sports.

Activities for families and children

The Primiero Carnival is designed primarily for families and little ones. Every year, the program includes face painting, bouncy castles, creative workshops for making masks, and the grand costume parade with prizes for the best outfits. There is no shortage of crostoli, hot tea, and traditional Carnival sweets offered to everyone, creating a festive atmosphere that warms up the valley's winter days.

Themed editions

Each year, the Primiero Carnival chooses a theme that inspires the floats, masks, and decorations. The 2026 edition is dedicated to the "Olympic Carnival – Sport that Unites", with a clear nod to Olympic values and the spirit of sportsmanship, which is deeply felt in a mountain territory like Primiero. Past editions have featured imaginative themes like Alice in Wonderland, transforming the town into a colorful and dreamlike world.

A territory to experience

Attending the Primiero Carnival is also an opportunity to discover the municipality of Primiero San Martino di Castrozza and its valley, nestled between the Trentino Dolomites and overlooking the imposing Pale di San Martino group. Between folk traditions, mountain gastronomy, and breathtaking landscapes, the Carnival is one of the moments when the local community gathers and welcomes visitors with warmth.
