The return of a 16th-century artwork
On May 24, 2026, the Mother Church of Guglionesi, a village in Lower Molise in the province of Campobasso, will host the official presentation of the polychrome wooden effigy of Saint Roch, the city's co-patron saint. The precious statue, preserved in the Church of the Most Holy Rosary along with other 16th-century masterpieces, has been restored, bringing back to light the colors, details, and material that time had obscured.
A restoration under the Superintendence
The restoration work was carried out by restorer Maria Elena Lozupone, commissioned by the Parish of Santa Maria Maggiore and supervised by the Superintendence for Molise. The presentation, scheduled for 6:30 PM at the end of mass in the Mother Church, returns an artwork of great devotional and artistic value to the community.
Towards the procession
The hope of the parish priest, Don Stefano Chimisso, is that the restored effigy can once again be carried in a procession during future celebrations. The event is part of the pre-patronal period of Guglionesi, marked by events that intertwine faith, art, and the identity of the Molise territory.

On May 24, 2026, at 6:30 PM, the Mother Church of Guglionesi hosted the official presentation of the restored polychrome wooden effigy of Saint Roch, at the end of mass. The 16th-century artwork was preserved in the Church of the Most Holy Rosary.
