The international chamber music competition with piano
The Premio Trio di Trieste is an international chamber music competition named after the historic Trio di Trieste, one of the most beloved chamber ensembles of the 20th century. Organized by the Chamber Music Association, it awards the best young piano and string ensembles, attracting talents from all over the world to the city.
The competition is open to duo, trio, and quartet ensembles with piano and strings, with a maximum average age of the members around 32 years. The competition is divided into several rounds—from video pre-selection to live performances, up to the semi-final and final—with candidates required to present a wide chamber music repertoire. The jury brings together some of the most authoritative international musicians and educators.
The competition venues are the Giuseppe Tartini Conservatory, with its Tartini Hall, and the Miela Theatre, where the semi-finals and final are held. The highlight is the Winners' Concert, featuring the winning ensemble, recorded by RAI for broadcast on Radio3: an award that launches young performers towards an international concert career.
With a substantial prize fund and a top-level roster of past winners, the Premio Trio di Trieste confirms the city's dedication to chamber music, heir to a tradition that has made chamber repertoire its defining characteristic.
The 23rd edition of the Premio Trio di Trieste takes place from September 12 to 16, 2026. The competition is open to duos, trios, and quartets with piano and strings, with a maximum average age of 32 years for members, and offers a total prize fund of €38,600.
Following the video pre-selection (jury meeting on June 27, 2026), the live auditions will be held at the Tartini Conservatory and the Miela Theatre, culminating in the Winners' Concert on Wednesday, September 16, at the Miela Theatre, recorded by RAI for broadcast on Radio3.
