Contemporary art and sculpture among the quarries of the Karst
In the Trieste Karst, where the wind shapes the landscape and the stone tells centuries of history, L'Energia dei Luoghi – Festival del Vento e della Pietra comes to life. Organized by the association Casa C.A.V.E. (Contemporary Art Visogliano/Vižovlje Europe), the festival brings contemporary art to the most evocative quarries and locations in Duino Aurisina, fostering a deep dialogue between artistic creation and the territory.
The heart of the festival lies in the sculpture residencies: young artists from Italy, Slovenia, Austria, and Serbia work with stone scraps from the historic Aurisina quarries, guided by master sculptors. The artworks are added to KAMEN, the open-air museum that celebrates Aurisina's quarrying culture and is part of the cross-border Karst Geopark.
The program combines contemporary art exhibitions, land art installations, photography workshops, screenings, performances, and literary encounters. A journey that invites participants to perceive and narrate that "universal and inner Karst" which is the festival's poetic signature.
Promoted with the support of regional institutions and local partners, L'Energia dei Luoghi is a festival that transforms the quarries and the Karst landscape into spaces for creation and reflection. An event for those seeking contemporary art outside the traditional circuits, immersed in the nature and history of a borderland.
The 11th edition of L'Energia dei Luoghi is scheduled from August 30 to September 10, 2026, in Duino Aurisina, on the theme 'The Right to Beauty', understood as an ethical, civil, and transformative principle. The festival, organized by Casa C.A.V.E., brings contemporary art to the Karst quarries with sculpture residencies, land art, workshops, and screenings.
'The Right to Beauty': an ethical and civil principle that runs through the entire program.
Four young sculptors from Italy, Slovenia, Austria, and Serbia work with stone scraps from the Aurisina quarries, guided by master sculptors Alberto Fiorin and Edi Carrer. The artworks enrich the open-air museum KAMEN.
