A festival between the mountains and the village

Prato in Festa is the event where Veroli, an art city in the Ciociaria area of the Frosinone province, celebrates its most beloved natural corner: Prato di Campoli. Launched in 2024 by the Municipality of Veroli, the festival brings together hiking, outdoor sports, folk music, and local flavors in a single program, spreading activities between the mountain plateau and the squares of the historic center. The goal is to highlight the Veroli mountains as a community resource and promote slow, sustainable tourism in the heart of the Lazio region.

Prato di Campoli, the jewel of the Ernici Mountains

The heart of the festival is Prato di Campoli, a vast grassy plateau at 1,150 meters elevation, surrounded by a stunning beech forest and a crown of mountains that exceed 2,000 meters, including Monte del Passeggio. Described by the organizers themselves as an "incredible jewel," the plateau is one of the most popular hiking destinations in Lazio and hosts one of the largest adventure parks in the region, featuring about fifty equipped courses, a tree-top village, and trails of increasing difficulty. During the festival, the park also offers evocative night-time openings.

From its origins to the current format

The first edition took place on August 10, 2024, as a single-day event on the plateau, from 10 AM to 9 PM: tastings of mountain products, themed workshops, guided hikes, animals, folk music, and the presentation of the new hiking map of the Ernici Mountains, created by the Municipality of Veroli in collaboration with the Frosinone section of the Italian Alpine Club. In 2025, the festival grew into a three-day event, from July 4 to 6, with a widespread program that connected Prato di Campoli to the city's historic center for the first time.

The program: nature, sports, and music

The Prato in Festa format alternates moments of wellness and territory discovery with collective celebrations. Activities featured in the various editions include:

• Morning yoga sessions on the meadow, immersed in the silence of the mountains;
• Guided hikes and bike rides in the beech woods;
• Mountain songs and storytelling at sunset, with views of the Ernici peaks;
• Evening opening of the adventure park, one of the most extensive in Lazio;
• Entertainment and activities designed for families and children.

The flavors of Ciociaria

Alongside nature and sports, the festival highlights local products: during the weekend, local producers offer specialties from the Veroli mountains and the Ciociaria region for sale and tasting in a small market that promotes local agricultural supply chains. It is the perfect opportunity to discover cheeses, cured meats, and authentic flavors just a stone's throw from the beech forest.

Prato in Festa is part of the rich summer calendar promoted by the Municipality of Veroli, which brings the village to life every year from June to September alongside historic events such as the Fasti Verolani, Ernica Etnica, and the Philosophy Festival. For the Province of Frosinone and the Lazio Region, the event represents a successful example of enhancing the Apennine mountains: a youthful, free, and participatory festival that unites environment, traditions, and community.
