About Pragelato Book Fair

Every summer, the town of Pragelato in the upper Chisone Valley (Province of Turin, Piedmont) hosts the Book Fair: a long-running cultural event held from July 15th through the end of August. Set up at Casa Pragelato in the Rivets hamlet, the fair transforms the space into a grand mountain bookstore, featuring thousands of titles for readers of all ages and numerous author events. Organized by Verde Libri, it is a highly anticipated appointment for the valley, the entire Via Lattea ski area, and the many tourists visiting the high altitudes during the summer season.

A mountain bookstore that lasts all summer

The Pragelato Book Fair is one of the longest-running cultural events in the upper Chisone Valley. Every year, from July 15th to the final days of August, the small town of Pragelato, in the Province of Turin (Piedmont), turns into a major gathering point for readers, offering a daily book exhibition at an altitude of over 1,500 meters for more than a month and a half.

Where and when

The event takes place at Casa Pragelato, in the Rivets hamlet, near the Sports Center. The exhibition is generally open daily with continuous hours split between morning and afternoon (approximately 9:00 AM – 12:30 PM and 3:00 PM – 7:00 PM), catering to both local residents and the many vacationers exploring the Via Lattea during the summer.

Books for all ages

The heart of the fair is a vast and varied editorial selection: fiction, non-fiction, poetry, thrillers and noir, illustrated books, and titles for children and young adults. Alongside the latest market releases, you will find classics and suggestions for every taste, in a layout designed for browsing and the pleasure of discovery.

Meet the authors

Beyond the exhibition, the Book Fair offers a dense calendar of presentations and author meet-and-greets, concentrated primarily in the month of August. Writers, journalists, and key figures from the publishing world engage with the public, making the festival a true occasion for cultural exchange rather than just a retail event.

A traditional appointment

Organized by Verde Libri under the guidance of Fausto Franchino, the Fair is now a classic of the Pragelato summer. With over three decades of history, the event has become a benchmark for book lovers vacationing in the mountains, blending culture, tourism, and village life in one of the most characteristic hamlets of the Turin Olympic valleys.

The setting: Pragelato and the Via Lattea

Pragelato is a renowned tourist destination in the Cottian Alps, famous for the cross-country skiing facilities that hosted the 2006 Turin Winter Olympics and for being part of the vast Via Lattea (Milky Way) ski area. The Book Fair enriches the local summer offering, providing a cultural alternative to hiking and outdoor activities in a charming alpine setting.

The 36th edition of the Pragelato Book Fair kicks off on July 15, 2026, at Casa Pragelato (Rivets hamlet), upholding the tradition of a long-running summer cultural event in the upper Chisone Valley. This year, the exhibition once again offers thousands of titles for readers of all ages, from new releases to fiction, non-fiction, and children's books, accompanied by a program of author events. The closing date and the full calendar of presentations will be announced by the organizers in the weeks leading up to the opening.
