The masked parade that brings color to the Valle Sessera village
In the heart of the Valle Sessera, at the foot of the Biellese and Valsesian Prealps, the small town of Postua (Vercelli province, Piedmont) rediscovers its most infectious joy every year with the Postua Carnival. It is one of those local festivals that, despite its modest size, manages to involve the entire community: children, families, groups of friends, and local associations gather for a carefree afternoon of costumes, music, and good cheer. As per tradition, the event is organized by the Pro Loco of Postua, the true soul of the village's festivities.
The highlight of the festival is the Carnival parade. The procession sets off from the Roncole hamlet and winds along the village's main street, creating a colorful and lively "serpentine" that moves through Postua amidst confetti, streamers, and plenty of music. The participation of masked groups is one of the event's strengths: every year, local associations and groups showcase original costumes and creative ideas.
Recent editions have featured both historical groups and new entries: from the Confraternita to the Cocktail del Bornello, through groups inspired by the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics and fun themed costumes—including bees, penguins, and other playful disguises—to the Casa Serena Postuese group. A mosaic of color and imagination that reflects the playful and affectionate spirit of the festival.
At the end of the parade, the festivities move to the village's multi-purpose center, where the most anticipated moment takes place: the presentation of the "Postuese of the Year" award. The prize celebrates a community member who has distinguished themselves through dedication and commitment to the village, in an atmosphere of collective affection and gratitude. Alongside the main award, there is no shortage of humor, with playful recognitions that bring smiles and fuel the convivial spirit typical of Carnival.
The Postua Carnival is part of the rich carnival tradition of Valsesia and Upper Piedmont, a territory where every village, no matter how small, preserves its own masks, bean feasts, and festive rituals. In Postua, the Carnival is not just a parade, but an opportunity to strengthen the bonds of a small mountain community that, even in the coldest months of winter, knows how to gather around shared joy. For those visiting the Valle Sessera, it is an authentic opportunity to discover the most genuine identity of this corner of Piedmont.

There were numerous masked groups with original costumes: from the Confraternita to the Cocktail del Bornello, from the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics themed group to the fun bee and penguin masks, all the way to Casa Serena Postuese.
