Picerno celebrates its Lucanica, the queen of Lucanian cured meats
There is a cured meat that carries the identity of an entire region in its name: Lucanica. And there is a town that is its undisputed homeland: Picerno, a municipality in the Marmo Platano area in the province of Potenza. Here, every summer, Porklandia – Lucanica Festival takes place, the sagra that celebrates this prime product of Lucanian charcuterie tradition, flavoured with wild fennel, sweet pepper, and local spices.
During the festival, the streets and squares of the historic centre transform into a true gastronomic village, where Lucanica is the absolute star in all its variations. Stands offer a succession of tastings, workshops, and cooking shows with chefs and producers, in a journey that tells the story of the culture of pork and Lucanian cured meats.
Alongside the food, the festival offers plenty of entertainment: concerts and shows liven up the evenings, while the event traditionally coincides with the Notte Bianca & Felice, which keeps the town celebrating late into the night. Organized with the support of the Pro Loco (local tourism board) and the Municipality of Picerno, Porklandia is now one of the most anticipated food and wine events of the Lucanian summer, attracting visitors from all over the region and beyond.
For 2026, Porklandia – Lucanica Festival is expected in Picerno from August 8 to 10 (dates yet to be confirmed). Three days dedicated to Lucanica, with the historic centre transformed into a gastronomic village, featuring tastings, workshops, cooking shows, and concerts, coinciding with the Notte Bianca & Felice. It is advisable to verify the final schedule with the organizers.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition, with definitive dates and times, will be announced by the Pro Loco and the Municipality of Picerno in the coming weeks.
