Clusane d'Iseo celebrates lake fish
Clusane d'Iseo, a hamlet of the Municipality of Iseo in the province of Brescia, has always been linked to fishing and lake cuisine: its tradition of baked tench is famous throughout Lombardy. It is in this context that the Poor Fish Festival was born, an event that focuses on the lesser-known fish species of Lake Sebino, enhancing them from a tourist and gastronomic point of view.
The festival's aim is to promote lake fish and typical Franciacorta products, bringing attention back to fish traditionally considered "poor" but of great gastronomic and environmental value. Among these are species such as catfish, which the festival has featured in culinary ways to raise awareness about the lake's ecological balance. It is a way to combine taste, culture, and the protection of the lake environment.
The heart of the event is the Lungolago Capponi in Clusane, where food stalls are set up and the village's restaurants offer a selection of dishes based on poor fish. The lakefront thus becomes a large convivial space, enlivened by music and the charm of the Sebino landscape. The festival is often part of the broader calendar of the Festival dei Laghi Europei (Festival of European Lakes) in Iseo.
For Clusane and the Municipality of Iseo, the event is an opportunity to tell the identity of a territory deeply connected to water, where fishing has shaped local cuisine and culture. A delicious and conscious appointment, capable of uniting the tradition of Sebino fishermen with the food and wine promotion of Franciacorta.
In 2026, the Poor Fish Festival will be held in Clusane d'Iseo on Sunday, May 31st, coinciding with the Festival of European Lakes in Iseo. On the Lungolago Capponi, Clusane's restaurants will offer a selection of dishes based on poor fish, while food stalls dedicated to lake fish and typical Franciacorta products will be set up along the shore.
The event is part of the Festival of European Lakes in Iseo. Details on the Visit Lake Iseo portal.
