Kids become junior firefighters for a day
Pompieropoli is an annual event that transforms a square or courtyard in Garbagna Novarese into a child-sized fire station. In this town in the Novara plains (Piedmont), children have the chance to experience the thrill of the firefighter profession for a few hours, guided by the volunteers of the National Firefighters Association - Novara Section.
The experience recreates the emergency tasks performed by firefighters on a smaller scale. Equipped with a helmet, vest, and disposable cap, children face a series of challenges designed to test their balance, courage, and teamwork:
An authentic fire engine is always on-site for the kids to admire up close. At the end of the course, every participant receives a certificate of completion as a souvenir of their day as a firefighter.
Beyond the fun, Pompieropoli has a strong educational value: it teaches children, in a simple and playful way, the basic rules of fire prevention and how to behave in an emergency. The activity is aimed specifically at children and teenagers, and admission is free, making it a perfect day out for the whole family.
The Novara Section of the National Firefighters Association brings Pompieropoli to numerous towns in the region, from Garbagna Novarese to neighboring villages, with the goal of introducing the next generation to the world of emergency services. For this small town in the Lower Novara area, it is a highly anticipated event that draws families from across the region for a day of play, safety, and community spirit.
On Sunday, May 3, 2026, Garbagna Novarese hosted another day of Pompieropoli at Via Colombo 2. From 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM and from 2:00 PM to 5:30 PM, children were able to try their hand at the educational obstacle course that recreates firefighter activities in miniature.
Accompanied by volunteers from the National Firefighters Association - Novara Section, the young participants faced agility tests with ladders and poles, navigated the smoke tunnel, and extinguished a small fire with a hose, receiving a "junior firefighter" certificate at the end. A day dedicated to play and prevention, with free admission.
Children, equipped with a helmet, vest, and cap, safely complete all the tests and receive a final certificate of completion.
