The Poggiardo White Night

The Poggiardo White Night is one of the most anticipated summer events in the Salento hinterland. Every year, on the night of August 13th, the historic center of the town of Poggiardo, in the province of Lecce, transforms into a vast open-air stage: squares, plazas, and streets fill with music, performances, and crowds until late at night, in what has become a consolidated mid-summer tradition in the heart of Puglia.

One night, many souls

The formula is that of a classic multidisciplinary white night: dozens of simultaneous initiatives spread throughout the town, allowing the public to move freely from one square to another, choosing what to experience. The event is organized by the Gruppo Giovani Lavori in Corso Association with the patronage and collaboration of the Municipality of Poggiardo, and is free to enter.

Live music in every square

The beating heart of the evening is music: each square hosts a stage with its own sonic identity. It ranges from rock'n'roll to the rhythms of the pizzica and Salento tradition, from jazz to reggae and dub, with roaming bands animating the streets between concerts. Piazza Umberto I, Largo Santa Sofia, Piazza Episcopo, and Via Monte Grappa become gathering points dedicated to different genres.

Shows, art, and sports

• Aerial shows and street art — acrobats, dancers, and performers animate the center with suspended choreography and street theater performances;
• Live art — live painting sessions, exhibitions, and installations created with the involvement of the local art high school;
• Crafts — market exhibition featuring Salento jewelry, ceramics, and handmade textiles;
• Motors — gatherings of vintage cars and motorcycles, tuning, and historic Vespas;
• Sports — judo, mini-volleyball, boxing, and other disciplines performing in the square;
• Astronomy — observation of the summer sky with telescopes and astrophotography exhibitions;
• Kids' area — inflatables, bubble shows, baby dance, and mascots for the little ones.

Salento in celebration

The Poggiardo White Night is part of the great season of Salento summer festivals, when small inland towns fill with visitors and tourists in search of authenticity. The choice of white as the symbolic color, with the invitation to dress in light tones, helps create a bright and dreamy atmosphere that accompanies the community until the first light of dawn.
