The Pizzoccheri Festival in Teglio, in the province of Sondrio, celebrates Valtellina's signature dish in the village that invented it. Teglio is universally recognized as the homeland of pizzoccheri — the buckwheat tagliatelle dressed with savoy cabbage, potatoes, butter, and Casera cheese — and is home to the Accademia del Pizzocchero (Pizzoccheri Academy), which guards the original recipe.

Three Days in the Pine Grove

The festival takes place in the Teglio pine grove, a short walk from the Torre de li Beli Miri, the village's symbol. The kitchen naturally offers pizzoccheri, but also sciatt, sausages, pork chops, cured meats, and local cheeses. The evenings are enlivened by live music and dancing, in a convivial atmosphere that attracts visitors from all over the valley and beyond.

A Long-Standing Tradition

Now in its many editions, the Pizzoccheri Festival is one of the most anticipated summer events in the alpine Lombardy. Visiting Teglio during the festival also means discovering a village rich in history, with Renaissance palaces and the famous Palazzo Besta, in a panoramic setting overlooking the Rhaetian side of Valtellina.
