Parade floats, masks, and joy through the white alleys of Pisticci
Amidst the characteristic white alleys of the Dirupo district, Pisticci, in the Province of Matera, experiences the joy of the Pisticci Carnival every year. For a few days in February, the historic center fills with colors, music, and masks, with a parade of floats and masked groups animating Piazza Umberto I and the main streets of the town.
The event, organized by the cultural association Il Bacco di Caravaggio, involves associations, schools, and local groups in a competition of creativity. At the end of the parades, prizes are awarded for the most original mask, the most beautiful group, and the best float, as well as special recognition for the youngest and most elaborate masks.
The Carnival doesn't stop at the main town: in the hamlet of Marconia, "Carnevalando" takes place in parallel, with the patronage of the Municipality of Pisticci, confirming a tradition that unites the entire community. Shows, theater, music, and free events accompany the days, making the Pisticci Carnival a beloved event for all ages.
The 2026 edition of the Pisticci Carnival took place in February, with a parade of floats and masked groups in Piazza Umberto I and through the streets of the center. The festival, organized by the association Il Bacco di Caravaggio, presided over by Teresa Santeramo, concluded with an awards ceremony on February 25, 2026.
Among the prizes awarded: most original mask to Daniel Quinto, most beautiful group to the Grest Tinchi animators, best float ex aequo to the "Nuovi Orizzonti" association (sailors theme) and the Maffei company (Peter Pan theme), as well as special awards for the youngest and most elaborate masks. In parallel, "Carnevalando" was held in Marconia.
Pisticci is reachable by car from the SS407 Basentana and the SS106 Jonica. The parades are concentrated in Piazza Umberto I and along the streets of the historic center.
Events and parades are free and take place in public spaces.
