Science leaves the lab and hits the pubs of Bari, all over a beer.
Pint of Science is an international science communication festival that, for a few nights each year, takes research out of lecture halls and laboratories and brings it to where people actually meet: the pub, over a pint. Founded in London in 2013 and now held in dozens of countries, the festival arrives every May in Bari, the capital of Puglia, with a program of evening talks that pack the city's venues with curious minds, students, and enthusiasts.
The concept is simple and brilliant: no podiums, no blackboards, just a researcher sitting among the audience, sharing their studies in plain language, mixing explanations with questions and laughter. Each night is dedicated to a major theme and takes place in a different pub across the city. In Bari, the festival involves six historic local pubsโHop!, Beerteller, Fermento, Factory Pub, Locale โ Unconventional Pub, and Taverna del Malteseโeach paired with a specific thematic area.
The Bari lineup covers the entire scientific spectrum, divided into the six major areas of the international format:
Behind the Bari events are the region's major research centers: the University of Bari Aldo Moro, the Bari branch of the INFN (National Institute for Nuclear Physics), the CNR with its Nanotec and Stiima institutes, as well as professionals from the Policlinico and independent science communicators. It is a unique opportunity to meet the people who do research every day and discover how science is already part of our daily lives.
In Bari, all events are free and require no prior knowledge: just walk in, order a drink, and listen. It is a different way to spend an evening in the city, blending the conviviality of the pub with a desire to understand the world. It has become a highly anticipated event for the Bari public, with venues filling to capacity every year.
The 2026 edition brought Bari to life for three consecutive nights, from May 18 to 20, with 18 free talks in six city pubs starting at 9:00 PM. The festival was part of the large national Pint of Science network, which in 2026 involved 28 Italian cities, 90 pubs, and over 300 researchers. In Bari, topics covered robotics, artificial intelligence, addictions and ADHD, new materials for sustainable cities, medicinal mushrooms, and gentrification, with speakers from the University of Bari, INFN, CNR, and the Policlinico.
The talks are held in six pubs in Bari: Hop! (Via Devitofrancesco 11), Beerteller (Via Postiglione 4), Fermento (Via Pastore 201/4), Factory Pub (Via Milella 33), Locale โ Unconventional Pub (Corso Benedetto Croce 18), and Taverna del Maltese (Via Nicolai 67).
Talks start at 9:00 PM every night. The festival runs for three nights in mid-May.
Free. Seating is limited to the capacity of the venues: it is recommended to arrive early as the nights often sell out.
The pubs are spread across the city center and various neighborhoods of Bari and are accessible by car or public transport. Bari Central Station is well-connected by regional and national trains.
