The allegorical float parade on the Piné Plateau
The Piné Carnival is the event that transforms the center of Baselga di Pinè, the main town of the Piné Plateau, into a joyful procession of colors, music, and confetti every winter. The heart of the celebration is the allegorical float parade, hand-built over the preceding months by local groups and neighboring villages, which marches through the main streets followed by dozens of masks and costumed participants.
Organized by the A.S.D. Dragon Piné association, the event follows the Ambrosian rite, meaning the Carnival in Baselga di Pinè is celebrated a few days later than the traditional calendar, extending the carnival season in Trentino.
The procession winds through the center of Baselga di Pinè: the floats depart from the Lido area and parade along Corso Roma, Via Marconi, and Via Cesare Battisti, ending in Piazzale Costalta. Each float reinterprets a different theme, from cartoon characters to pop culture icons, often featuring the coscritti—the local young adults coming of age—marching with their year group.
After the parade, the festivities continue in Piazzale Costalta, where a bar service is set up along with local culinary specialties: pasta prepared by the Alpini, mulled wine, and hot tea to warm up the winter afternoon. It is the moment when young and old gather to dance, eat together, and close the Carnival day in high spirits.
The Piné Carnival is much more than just a parade: it is a defining event that involves the entire community of Baselga di Pinè, from the volunteers who build the floats to the Alpini, local merchants, and town associations. Set on one of the most picturesque plateaus in Trentino-Alto Adige, amidst the lakes and forests of the Cembra Valley, it is the perfect opportunity to discover the hospitality and folk traditions of the Piné Plateau in the heart of winter.
On Saturday, February 22, 2026, the center of Baselga di Pinè hosted the traditional Piné Carnival parade, organized by A.S.D. Dragon Piné. The procession departed from the Lido parking lot to reach Piazzale Costalta, featuring six allegorical floats—one arriving from Albiano—and dozens of masks.
After the parade, the party continued in the square with bar service, pasta prepared by the Alpini, mulled wine, and hot tea offered by the local butcher shop, in a day of celebration that involved families and the community of the Piné Plateau.
Baselga di Pinè is located about 20 km from Trento. By car, it can be reached via the SS47 Valsugana road, taking the exit toward the Piné Plateau; there is ample parking in the Lido and town center areas. By train, the reference station is Trento, which is connected by Trentino Trasporti suburban buses to the Plateau.
The parade and the celebration in Piazzale Costalta are free and open to everyone. Food and drinks are available for purchase at the refreshment points (bar, Alpini pasta, mulled wine).
Winter event: warm clothing is recommended. Ideal for families with children.
