The pork festival in the village of Castel di Sasso, in the Alto Casertano area

Every summer, in the small town of Castel di Sasso, in the province of Caserta, the Piglet Festival celebrates one of the undisputed stars of rural Campanian cuisine: pork, served in all its most traditional forms. The event, which takes place in July in the Barignano area, along the provincial road connecting Piana di Monte Verna to Capua, has become a recurring appointment for years for the village residents and visitors to the Alto Casertano.
At the heart of the festival are the food stalls, where you can taste ancient local recipes: from slow-roasted porchetta to sausages prepared according to local customs, to grilled ribs and other pork-based specialties that have made the peasant cuisine of the Medio Volturno famous. The dishes are accompanied by wines and typical products from the Caserta countryside, in a culinary journey that highlights the authenticity and memory of the tables of the past.
In addition to the gastronomy, the Piglet Festival offers live folk music, dancing, and entertainment that turn the event area into a true meeting place for all ages. There is also a local produce market, featuring the best of Caserta's craftsmanship and food and wine, while a dedicated space for children makes the event suitable for the whole family. The large area, equipped with seating, a dance floor, and parking, welcomes numerous visitors every evening.
Castel di Sasso is a small town of just over a thousand inhabitants located in the hills of the Caserta hinterland, in Campania, a short distance from historic centers like Caiazzo, Capua, and Piana di Monte Verna. Attending the Piglet Festival means not only savoring traditional dishes but also discovering an authentic corner of the Caserta province, where the slow pace of the villages and the hospitality of the people remain a value to be experienced. The festival thus represents an ideal opportunity to combine the pleasure of good food with the rediscovery of a territory often far from the most beaten tourist paths.
The 2026 edition of the Piglet Festival in Castel di Sasso, in the province of Caserta, will feature the same formula that has made this Alto Casertano festival popular over the years: food stalls with porchetta, sausages, and grilled ribs, evenings of folk music, and a market of typical local products. Precise dates and the program for the 2026 edition have not yet been released at the time of publication; it is recommended to check local channels for updates.
Castel di Sasso can be reached by car from the Caserta Nord (A1) motorway exit, continuing towards the Alto Casertano in the direction of Piana di Monte Verna. The event area is located in the Barignano locality, along the Piana di Monte Verna-Capua provincial road. Ample parking is available near the area.
The event is held in July, usually over a summer weekend (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday). It is advisable to check the dates on local channels before planning your visit.
Free entry to the area. Reservations may be required for the peasant dinner. Bring cash for the food stalls and the market.
