PIF - People Involvement Festival

The alternative heart of the Irpinia summer

The PIF - People Involvement Festival is the event that transforms Frigento, a small town in the Province of Avellino, Campania, into a hub for alternative music in Southern Italy every summer. The stage is set up at the Via Castelluccio Camper Area, an open-air space overlooking the hills of Irpinia, where concerts continue late into the night.

It is organized by People Involvement APS, a youth social promotion association founded in Frigento in 2010, which has always combined live music, youth outreach, intercultural dialogue, and environmental and tourism promotion of the area. It is this dual soul—artistic and social—that makes the PIF different from a simple concert series: the programming is designed as a community tool for an inland area that is too often described only by depopulation statistics.

The 2026 edition: ten editions in the name of Permanence

In 2026, the festival reaches the milestone of its tenth edition and chooses to celebrate it with a guiding word: Permanence. To stay, to take root, to continue building bridges. The dates are Friday, July 31st, and Saturday, August 1st, 2026, with gates opening at 6:30 PM and live music until late at night.

The program for the two evenings

• Friday, July 31st: the return of Zu, an experimental instrumental rock band that performed at the very first edition of the festival; Sick Tamburo by Elisabetta Imelio and Gian Maria Accusani, who previously worked together in the project Prozac+; Casino Royale, a historic Milanese band formed in 1987 as a ska and reggae group, which became a benchmark for hip hop, dub, and crossover in Italy; the local Irpinian band I Malbianco, active in alternative rock/punk since 2014; and closing with a DJ set by Irene Ferrara, a speaker and journalist from Naples.
• Saturday, August 1st: on stage I Ministri, Management del Dolore Postoperatorio, Neoprimitivi, and VIOLet.

The formula alternates nationally renowned names with emerging bands, with plenty of space for groups originating in Irpinia: a choice that over the years has allowed many local acts to perform in front of a large audience and a provincial festival to build a recognizable identity.

A festival with a history

From the first editions, which hosted Teatro degli Orrori, Zu, and The Zen Circus, the PIF has spanned fifteen years of Italian independent music. In 2023, Marlene Kuntz, Giancane, 'A67, and Animaux Formidables took the stage; in 2025, it was the turn of Planet Funk. However, the music is never alone: in the past, the festival has paired concerts with readings and meetings on social issues, such as in 2022 with Pierpaolo Capovilla and Piero Cipriano discussing the texts of Antonin Artaud and Franco Basaglia.

Frigento and Eastern Irpinia

Frigento is a village in Eastern Irpinia, in the Province of Avellino, surrounded by a hilly landscape of woods, vineyards, and cultivated fields. The PIF is part of the Estate Frigentina calendar, the summer program promoted by the Municipality that brings events to various locations in the town from June to August. For those arriving from outside, the two evenings of the festival are also an opportunity to discover a piece of Campania far from the coast: rustic cuisine, Irpinian wines, and a summer evening spent outdoors, between the stage and the hills.
