About Pietradefusi Carnival

The Pietradefusi Carnival is a costume party hosted by the Irpinian municipality for children in the village of Dentecane, in the province of Avellino. Piazza Dante Troisi comes alive with confetti, entertainment, team games, and music for an afternoon tailor-made for families. The March 2, 2025 edition featured special guests Minnie and Mickey Mouse, with music provided by DJ Angelo T. It is a simple, convivial celebration in the 'nougat village' that showcases the Irpinian Carnival through the eyes of the little ones.

A Carnival celebration designed for children

The Pietradefusi Carnival is a costume event that the Irpinian municipality dedicates to children in the village of Dentecane, in the province of Avellino. Rather than a large parade of allegorical floats like those seen in historic Campanian carnivals, this is a family-friendly town square celebration: an afternoon of entertainment, games, and music that turns Piazza Dante Troisi into a small stage of joy for the entire town.

The last documented edition: March 2, 2025

The most recent edition recorded in the local press and on the Avellino Province's 'Sistema Irpinia' portal took place on Sunday, March 2, 2025, starting at 3:00 PM. The program featured entertainment, team games, fun, and music for both children and adults. The day's special guests were Minnie and Mickey Mouse, while the soundtrack was provided by DJ Angelo T., who kept the party going until the evening. In case of bad weather, activities were scheduled to move indoors to municipal facilities.

What to expect

  • Entertainment and team games for children right in the square
  • Music and dancing hosted by a DJ, amidst confetti and streamers
  • Costumed characters and mascots beloved by the little ones
  • A convivial afternoon, open to parents and grandparents alike
  • Indoor backup location in municipal buildings in case of rain

Dentecane, the village of nougat

The celebration takes place in a village known throughout Irpinia for a very delicious reason: Dentecane is the home of artisanal nougat. Here, family-run workshops have been passing down the production of nougat and the famous pantorrone for generations, selling them locally and exporting them far beyond the borders of Campania. The municipality of Pietradefusi, with just over two thousand inhabitants, is located on the border between the provinces of Avellino and Benevento, in the middle Calore valley, and is known precisely as the village of nougat.

Carnival in Irpinia

Carnival is one of the most vibrant popular traditions in the province of Avellino: from the floats and the 'ntreccio dance of Montemarano to the zeze of Paternopoli, and the events in Mercogliano, Castelvetere, Serino, and Cesinali, the period between February and March fills Irpinian towns with masks, tarantellas, and parades. The Pietradefusi Carnival fits into this calendar with a different, more intimate, and familiar tone, dedicated explicitly to the children of the town and neighboring villages: here, it is not the monumental floats that count, but the participation of an entire community gathering in the square.

The festival calendar in Pietradefusi

The municipality enlivens the year with various events: the Feast of Saint Faustinus the Martyr, the patron saint celebrated on February 15 and the second Sunday of August, the Fusillo and Braciola Festival in August, and the Pietra Delli Fusi historical re-enactment during the Ferragosto holidays. The Carnival celebration effectively kicks off this calendar, right after winter, and is often the first collective gathering of the year for the families of Dentecane and the other hamlets.

2026 Edition: dates not yet announced

At the moment, no official date has been published for the 2026 edition of the Carnival celebration in Dentecane, and the Municipality of Pietradefusi does not appear in the Irpinian carnival calendar released for 2026. As this is a movable feast tied to the liturgical calendar, the event should be expected between February and early March. It is advisable to follow the official municipal channels and local press for confirmation of the day, time, and program.

Pietradefusi Carnival — edition 2026

No official date for the Pietradefusi Carnival in Dentecane has been announced for 2026. The municipality does not appear in the Irpinian carnival calendar for the current year, and local sources provide neither a day nor a program. As this is a movable feast, the event is expected between February and early March, in Piazza Dante Troisi as in previous editions.

The 2026 edition of the Pietradefusi Carnival is currently not confirmed by official sources: neither the municipality nor the Avellino Province's 'Sistema Irpinia' portal have published dates or programs, and Pietradefusi does not appear in the Irpinian carnival calendar released for 2026.

To find out the day, time, and program, it is advisable to consult the official channels of the Municipality of Pietradefusi and the local Irpinian press in the weeks leading up to Carnival.
