About Piazza dell'Arte

Piazza dell'Arte is Messina's premier celebration of youth creativity. For one night only, the University's central courtyard and the iconic Rectorate Staircase are transformed into an open-air theatre. Bands, soloists, dance troupes, theatre companies, jugglers, and street performers bring the city to life with live shows, while art workshops, photo exhibitions, and painting competitions engage thousands of young people and families. Organized by the Associazione Morgana, the event is entirely free and open to the public.

A night of magic in the heart of Messina

Piazza dell'Arte is one of the most anticipated events of the spring in Messina: a festival that, for one night, illuminates the central courtyard of the University of Messina and the famous Rectorate Staircase with music, colour, and talent. Promoted by the Associazione Morgana in collaboration with Orum and Azione Universitaria, and supported by ERSU and the University of Messina, the festival turns one of the city's most symbolic landmarks into a grand open-air theatre.

A stage for emerging artists

The heart of the evening is the showcase for young talent: bands, soloists, dance groups, theatre companies, jugglers, and street performers take turns on stage, offering a varied and engaging programme. The event was created to provide a concrete opportunity for those who make art a way of life, connecting local youth with the city's audience. Over the years, Piazza dell'Arte has grown to become a benchmark for the youth artistic scene in Messina and its province.

More than just music

The festival is not limited to concerts. Throughout the day, there are artistic and cultural workshops, a painting competition for art high school students, photo exhibitions, and moments for discussion and debate. In the evening, the public can wander among the installations and performances in a festive atmosphere that brings together students, families, and curious visitors.

A free and inclusive event

Thanks to the efforts of the Associazione Morgana volunteers and the support of sponsors and institutions like ERSU and the University of Messina, admission is completely free. Each year, interested artists can apply to perform by responding to a call for entries published on the association's channels. Piazza dell'Arte is now a symbol of the cultural vitality of Messina, the capital of the Strait, and an opportunity to rediscover the University as a space open to the city and its community.

Piazza dell'Arte โ€” edition 2026

The 11th edition of Piazza dell'Arte took place on May 13, 2026, in the central courtyard of the University of Messina and on the Rectorate Staircase. Promoted by the Associazione Morgana with Orum and Azione Universitaria, and supported by ERSU and the University, the event turned the campus into an open-air theatre with bands, soloists, dance groups, theatre companies, and street performers. Free admission.

Piazza dell'Arte 2026 โ€” 11th Edition

The eleventh edition of Piazza dell'Arte was held on May 13, 2026, in the central courtyard of the University of Messina, with the Rectorate Staircase serving as a backdrop. The evening followed the festival's established formula: an open stage for local young talent, featuring performances by bands, soloists, dance groups, theatre companies, and jugglers.

The event, promoted by the Associazione Morgana with Orum and Azione Universitaria and supported by ERSU and the University of Messina, reaffirmed its commitment to being a free and inclusive event, engaging students, families, and citizens. Artists had applied in the preceding weeks by responding to the call for entries published on the association's channels.

The detailed programme for the 2026 edition, including the full list of participants, was not released publicly in its entirety.
