Carnival in the village of Pereto

The Pereto Carnival is one of the most anticipated winter events in the small Municipality of Pereto, a medieval village nestled in the Turano Valley, in the province of L'Aquila, on the far western border of Abruzzo. Known as the "Gateway to Abruzzo" due to its frontier position with Lazio, Pereto preserves a perfectly intact historic center, dominated by an imposing castle with its Frederick-era towers. In this evocative setting, the Carnival festival renews a moment of gathering for the entire Pereto community every year.

A day of celebration for everyone

The event, organized by the Pro Loco of Pereto, is designed to involve all ages. The afternoon is dedicated to the little ones with the "Carnevaliere", a rich program of games, entertainment, and surprises that transforms the town into a cheerful playground for children and families. In the evening, the atmosphere heats up with the traditional Carnival Party: music, dancing, and masks fill the "Maurizio Tomassini" multi-purpose hall, the heart of the village's community initiatives.

The party keeps the Italian tradition of the masquerade ball alive, with everyone invited to attend in costume. The highlight of the evening is the award ceremony for the best mask, which stimulates the imagination and creativity of the participants every year. Amidst costumes, confetti, and cheer, the Pereto Carnival represents one of the occasions where the town comes together, in the full spirit of the best Abruzzo carnival tradition.

The Carnival is part of a calendar of events that accompanies Pereto throughout the year, from religious celebrations curated by ancient brotherhoods to summer festivals like the Gnoccata in the square, the Mountain Festival, and the August Pereto events. The Pro Loco plays a fundamental role in preserving and passing down these popular rites, which constitute the identity of one of the most authentic villages in the Marsica region and the entire Abruzzo area.
