The great market that enlivens Tirano in spring
The Pentecost Fair has always been one of the most significant events for Tirano, a town in Valtellina, in the province of Sondrio. Every year, coinciding with the Pentecost holiday, the town center comes alive with a large street market that attracts exhibitors and visitors from all over the valley, transforming the streets and squares into a path of colors, scents, and opportunities.
The fair takes place over two days. On Sunday, the market occupies a large route that crosses Viale Italia, Piazza Basilica, Viale Cappuccini, Via Pedrotti, Via Pio Rajna, Via Monte Padrio, the market area, and Via Elvezia; on Monday, the stalls are concentrated along the "red route," between Viale Cappuccini, Via Pedrotti, Via Pio Rajna, Via Monte Padrio, and the market area. Among the stands, you will find exhibitors, street vendors, and commercial activities offering food and non-food products, clothing, crafts, and curiosities.
To host the large market, the Municipality of Tirano makes significant changes to traffic and parking in the affected areas. The fair thus becomes an opportunity to experience the center on foot, between shopping and strolls, in one of the events most deeply rooted in Tirano's tradition.
Tirano is an important crossroads in Valtellina, known for the Sanctuary of the Madonna di Tirano and as the Italian terminus of the Bernina Red Train, a UNESCO heritage site that connects the town to Switzerland. The Pentecost Fair is part of the calendar of major city fairs, alongside the historic San Michele Fair, testifying to the long commercial vocation of this alpine center.
The 2026 edition of the Pentecost Fair enlivens Tirano on Sunday, May 24 and Monday, May 25. The street market winds along a large route in the town center, with exhibitors, street vendors, and commercial activities. The Municipality makes traffic and parking modifications to accommodate the event.
During the two days, temporary traffic and parking modifications are planned in the affected areas.
