The Music Festival in the hills of the Asti Monferrato
Every year, to mark World Music Day on June 21st, the Municipality of Penango—a small village in the Province of Asti, Piedmont—hosts Penango in Music. For an entire afternoon and into the evening, music resonates through the streets and squares of the town to celebrate the occasion that honors the universal language of melody across Europe.
The format is that of a widespread music festival: rather than a single large stage, the event creates a grassroots, intimate atmosphere that involves the entire village, turning music into a meeting point for the local community and visitors from neighboring towns.
Penango has just over four hundred residents and is nestled at an altitude of 264 meters in the hills of the Asti Monferrato, about 15 kilometers north of Asti and forty kilometers from Turin. The municipal territory also includes the hamlet of Cioccaro and is immersed in a landscape of vineyards and gentle slopes typical of this part of Piedmont. Events like Penango in Music showcase the vitality of small Monferrato towns, which are capable of enlivening the summer calendar with events curated directly by the local administration.
The initiative was born to take music out of traditional concert venues and return it to the squares, the streets, and the daily life of the village. It is a free event open to all, designed for families, music lovers, and curious visitors who want to spend a day at the beginning of summer immersed in the welcoming atmosphere of a Monferrato village.
The 2026 appointment with Penango in Music is set for June 21st, the day that celebrates the Music Festival across Europe. The event, announced by the Municipality of Penango, begins in the afternoon (from 3:30 PM) and accompanies the village until evening with widespread music.
The edition takes place in the streets and squares of the Asti Monferrato village, in a popular and free festive atmosphere.

The festival is scheduled to start at 3:30 PM on June 21st and continue until evening, with music spread throughout the village streets. For updates, please refer to the official municipal channels.
