Trail running on the Parma Apennines in Bedonia
The Pelpi Trail is now a well-established event in the Parma Apennines running calendar. It takes place in Bedonia, a small municipality in the Province of Parma, in Emilia-Romagna, nestled in the upper Taro valley on the border with Liguria. Organized by the sports association A.S.D. Vallinbici with the patronage of the Municipality of Bedonia, the event is part of the Parma Trail Running Provincial Circuit and attracts hundreds of runners from all over Northern Italy each year.
The Pelpi Trail offers three different ways to experience the mountains, suitable for both seasoned athletes and those simply looking for a day outdoors:
Over 95% of the routes are on dirt roads and trails, through woods, ridges, and ancient paths that tell the story of this corner of the Apennines.
Bedonia is described by the organizers as โthe ideal place to run and spend a few days relaxing immersed in nature.โ The races cross a still pristine territory, dominated by the mountains separating Emilia from Liguria. It is an opportunity to discover the most authentic Parma mountains, far from mass tourism, where running also becomes a way to get to know the local landscape and traditions.
Behind the Pelpi Trail is โa group of friends who love runningโ and who work all year round to promote Bedonia and the upper Taro valley. Race day is not just about competition: a race pack with local typical products, aid stations along the route, a photo service, and the warm welcome of a small mountain village are as much a part of the experience as the kilometers and elevation gain.
The 8th Pelpi Trail was held on Sunday, May 3, 2026, in Bedonia, organized by A.S.D. Vallinbici with the patronage of the Municipality and included in the 2026 Parma Trail Running Provincial Circuit.
Meet in Piazza Centinaro from 7:30 AM and single start at 9:30 AM. Three options were offered: the 26 km long race with 1,333 m of positive elevation gain to the summit of Monte Orocco, the 10.5 km short race with 503 m of elevation gain, and the 10 km fun walk, non-competitive. Over 95% of the routes are on dirt roads and trails.
The first 250 registered for the competitive races received a Pelpi Trail 2026 technical t-shirt, a pack of trofie pasta, and a jar of pesto from local companies. Changing rooms, showers, free photo service, bag storage, aid stations along the route, medical assistance, and parking were available.
