About Patto d'Amistà
A legend that unites two communities
The Patto d'Amistà re-enacts the ancient medieval legend that links San Donà di Piave and Musile di Piave, in the province of Venice. According to tradition, the two communities – once a single town divided by the course of the Piave – established a pact of friendship with the symbolic handover of two capons, a gesture that is still renewed every year.
The historical procession
The re-enactment comes to life with a procession of figures, banners, musicians, and flag-wavers. From Piazza Indipendenza in San Donà, the delegation forms and sets off in procession, crosses the Ponte della Vittoria – where the meeting with the Musile delegation takes place – and reaches the town hall of Musile di Piave for the solemn reading of the Pact and the exchange of gifts.
A festival on both banks
The evening concludes with music, entertainment, and convivial moments, in a popular festival that involves both sides of the river. The event is part of the Estiamo summer program and is one of the identity events of eastern Veneto.
Patto d'Amistà — edition 2026
The 2026 re-enactment is confirmed for August 7th within Estiamo 2026. The historical procession, with banners, musicians, and flag-wavers, starts from Piazza Indipendenza in San Donà di Piave, crosses the Ponte della Vittoria, and reaches Musile di Piave for the ritual of the handover of the two capons and the reading of the solemn Patto d'Amistà.
Programme Patto d'Amistà 2026
The program for the 2026 edition, in the evening, follows the established structure of the re-enactment:
- Parade of flag-wavers in San Donà di Piave
- Gathering of authorities in Piazza Indipendenza and formation of the historical procession with the townspeople from the hamlets and their respective banners
- Departure of the delegations and meeting on the Ponte della Vittoria, with the handover of gifts
- In Musile di Piave: reading of the solemn Patto d'Amistà, exchange of capons, and greetings from the administrations
- Following this, musical entertainment and convivial moments
