The Festa patronale di San Donato (Patronal Festival of Saint Donatus) celebrates Saint Donatus, Bishop and Martyr of Arezzo, co-patron of the Cathedral parish and a figure linked to the very identity of San Donà di Piave, in the province of Venice. The feast day falls on August 7th.
Devotion in the Cathedral
The heart of the festival is the Cathedral of Santa Maria delle Grazie, where Saint Donatus is depicted in several works: the altarpiece by Giuseppe Cherubini, the lunette by Giuseppe Galletti, and the stained glass window in the weekday chapel. The festival, according to historical records, has always been characterized by "sincere piety and devotion" rather than worldly celebrations, with solemn liturgical services.
