The festival of the people of Caivano in honor of Mary Most Holy of Campiglione
In the heart of spring, the town of Caivano, in the province of Naples, pauses to celebrate its patron saint: Mary Most Holy of Campiglione. The Patronal Feast of the Madonna di Campiglione is much more than a religious recurrence; it is the festival of the Caivano people, an event that draws thousands of faithful, returning emigrants, and visitors from neighboring towns in the area north of Naples, in Campania, every year.
The tradition is rooted in the first miracle of 1483: for over five centuries, the people of Caivano have gathered around the image of the Virgin, kept in the Sanctuary of Campiglione and entrusted to the care of the Carmelite Fathers. The most moving moment of the festivities is the evocative ceremony of the enthronement of the Madonna's statue, which marks the start of each edition.
The religious program is packed: for days, Holy Masses and solemn concelebrations presided over by bishops and cardinals take place, many of which are broadcast live on television via Capri Event – Channel 95, ensuring that the sick and those unable to reach the Sanctuary can follow the celebrations. Pilgrimages to the Sanctuary accompany the entire festival period, culminating in a procession through the streets of the town.
Alongside the religious aspect runs a rich secular program: brass band concerts, live music groups, cabaret, the Carabinieri Fanfare, children's choirs, and the traditional Festival of Peoples. The streets of the center are filled with festive lights, stalls, and rides, while the famous fireworks illuminate the sky from the Via Rosselli market area. The grand finale features a major open-air concert that brings the week of festivities to a musical close.
For Caivano, the Campiglione Feast is a hallmark of identity: a blend of faith, tradition, and community that unites different generations and presents the city with an image of participation and belonging. Experiencing these days means entering the authentic heart of popular Campania.
The 2026 festivities in honor of Mary Most Holy of Campiglione combined an intense liturgical program, with bishops and cardinals presiding over the concelebrations, with a lively secular calendar featuring music, shows, and moments of popular celebration for the entire Caivano community.
Holy Masses and concelebrations were broadcast live on television on Capri Event – Channel 95. Pilgrimages to the Sanctuary took place starting May 1st.
