Four days of faith, tradition, and spectacle in Ururi
The Patronal Feast of the Holy Wood of the Cross is the most anticipated moment of the year for Ururi, a village in the province of Campobasso that preserves an ancient Arbëresh identity of Albanian origin. The festival, concentrated in the early days of May, combines deep devotion to the patron saint with the vitality of a community that intensely experiences its collective rituals.
The program alternates liturgical celebrations, processions, and moments of great popular appeal: the historical re-enactment with flag-wavers, the blessing of the carts, the spectacular Carrese — the race of ox-drawn carts — and evening concerts in the square. It is a total celebration, bringing together faith, tradition, and entertainment.
For Ururi, these days represent the heart of its collective identity: residents and returning emigrants gather to honor the Holy Wood of the Cross and to relive together the rituals that link the present to the village's Arbëresh roots, in one of the most heartfelt events in Lower Molise.
The Patronal Feast of the Holy Wood of the Cross 2026 enlivened Ururi from May 1st to 4th, in the heart of spring in Lower Molise. After the evening masses and cultural events leading up to it, the festival came alive on May 1st with the historical re-enactment, flag-wavers, and the Falconieri di Melfi.
On May 2nd, the blessing of the carts took place, a prelude to the spectacular Carrese on May 3rd, the race of ox-drawn carts followed by a procession. On May 4th, the festival concluded with a solemn mass, a procession, and Nesli's concert in Piazza Municipio, before the cart awards.
The Carrese, the re-enactment with the Falconieri di Melfi, and Nesli's concert in Piazza Municipio.
Ururi is located in Lower Molise, reachable by car from the Larino area and the Adriatic coast. The celebrations take place in the historic center and in Piazza Municipio.
The events and concerts in the square are free admission. The festival is held at the beginning of May: it is advisable to consult the Municipality and the Parish of Ururi for the updated program.
