The patronal feasts of the Village of Good Breath

Perched at an altitude of approximately 900 meters on the slopes of Monte Cairo, Terelle is one of the highest villages in the province of Frosinone. This small town in the Ciociaria region is renowned for its ancient chestnut groves and the healthy air that earned it the nickname 'Borgo del Buon Respiro' (Village of Good Breath). It is in this setting that, between mid-August and early September, the community celebrates its patronal feasts in honor of Santa Maria Assunta, titular of the parish church, and co-patrons San Rocco and San Vincenzo: days of faith, music, and conviviality that represent the heart of the Terelle summer.

Three celebrations, one great festive cycle

The cycle of celebrations opens on August 15th, Ferragosto, with the Feast of the Assumption: the most deeply felt Marian solemnity in the village, featuring a solemn mass and moments of devotion around the parish church of Santa Maria Assunta in the historic center. August 16th marks the Feast of San Rocco, the pilgrim saint invoked against epidemics and highly venerated throughout the Ciociaria region. At the end of the month, on August 31st, the community honors San Vincenzo, while the feast of Sant'Egidio on September 1st traditionally seals the patronal cycle. Each event is organized by the festival committee in collaboration with the parish, with the support of the municipal administration.

The patronal feasts are the highlight of the 'Il Borgo del Buon Respiro – E...state a Terelle' summer calendar, promoted by the Municipality of Terelle with the Pro Loco, local associations, and the patronage of the Lazio Region. Surrounding the religious observances is a dense series of events: the Village Feast, the pop music concert promoted by the parish, the meeting with the Madonna Bruna of Canneto — linked to the famous sanctuary of Settefrati, a pilgrimage destination for the entire Valle di Comino —, the Mountain and Emigrant Feast, and the cultural evenings organized by the Pro Loco. The result is an authentic village summer, where the spiritual dimension intertwines with social life and the warm welcome of emigrants returning to the village for their holidays.

The church of Santa Maria Assunta

The hub of the celebrations is the parish church of Santa Maria Assunta, which dominates the historic center with its architecture layered over the centuries and houses frescoes, paintings, and sculptures of biblical subjects. Dedicated to the Assumption of Mary, it has always been the spiritual reference point for the Terelle community and the heart of the Ferragosto feast, which attracts worshippers and visitors from neighboring towns as well.

An authentic village in the Ciociaria

Located between Cassino and the Valle di Comino in southern Lazio, Terelle has a few hundred inhabitants but boasts a remarkable natural heritage: the monumental chestnut grove of Via Cimitero, the trails of Monte Cairo, and panoramas that stretch as far as the Liri Valley. The late-summer patronal feasts anticipate the town's other major event, the Autumn Chestnut Festival, and are the ideal opportunity to discover a genuine mountain village, far from the most beaten tourist circuits of the region.
