The Feast of Saints Peter and Paul in Chianocco, in the heart of the Susa Valley

In the small town of Chianocco, nestled on the right side of the Susa Valley in the Province of Turin (Piedmont), the feast of Saints Peter and Paul is the most cherished event of the year. The two apostles, the town's patrons, are celebrated around June 29th, the date dedicated to them by the liturgical calendar, with several days of celebrations that bring the local squares and hamlets to life.
More than just a religious observance, the Chianocco patronal feast is a true village celebration: a time when residents, vacationers, and inhabitants of the surrounding hamlets gather to share meals, music, and games. The event is organized by the Festivities Committee in collaboration with the Bocciofila del Colombè, under the patronage of the Municipality of Chianocco—associations that keep a deeply rooted tradition of the Susa Valley alive every year.
The religious heart of the festival is the Solemn High Mass in honor of the Patron Saints, celebrated on Sunday and followed by a procession through the village streets, accompanied by the notes of the Bussoleno Philharmonic Society. Alongside the devotional aspect, there is a rich secular program: the historic "baraonda" pinnacolo tournament, dance evenings, the traditional "Pizzata di San Per" in the square, bocce tournaments at the Bocciofila del Colombè, and convivial dinners featuring festive culinary specialties.
Also known for its Orrido di Chianocco Nature Reserve, the village represents an authentic stop in the lower Susa Valley, far from the main tourist flows. Participating in the patronal feast means discovering the most genuine face of the Piedmontese mountains, defined by hospitality, simple flavors, and shared traditions. For visitors, it is also an opportunity to explore the surrounding area, rich in trails, hamlets, and historical landmarks linked to the Via Francigena and the alpine culture of the valley.
For 2026, the Chianocco patronal feast is expected around June 29th, the date dedicated to Saints Peter and Paul, with festivities spread over the preceding days. Based on recent editions, the program is expected to include the "baraonda" pinnacolo tournament, dance evenings, the Pizzata di San Per in the square, bocce tournaments, and, on Sunday, the Solemn High Mass followed by the procession with the Bussoleno Philharmonic Society.
The detailed 2026 program, including final dates, times, and names of musical groups, will be published by the Festivities Committee in the weeks leading up to the event. It is recommended to check the Municipality of Chianocco's channels for official updates.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition has not yet been officially published. Based on the established structure of recent editions, the festivities are expected to include:
Final dates, times, and artist names will be announced by the Festivities Committee.
Chianocco is located in the lower Susa Valley, in the Province of Turin. By car, it can be reached via the A32 Turin-Bardonecchia motorway (Borgone di Susa or Susa exits), then continuing on local roads. By train, the reference station is Bussoleno, on the Turin-Modane line, from where you can continue by bus or car.
Events are concentrated in the historic center of Chianocco, particularly at the Piazza Martiri di Cefalonia e Corfù pavilion, the Bocciofila del Colombè, and the parish church for religious celebrations.
Participation in religious celebrations and events in the square is generally free; dinners, pizza nights, and gastronomic evenings are paid events based on the menus proposed by the Festivities Committee.
