Three days of faith, tradition, and music in the Marsica region
In the small town of San Benedetto dei Marsi, nestled in the Fucino basin in the province of L'Aquila, the Patronal Feast in honor of Saint Vincent Ferrer and Saint Benedict the Abbot is the most cherished event of the early summer. Every year, during the first days of June, the town rallies around its patron saints with three days that combine religious devotion with social entertainment, involving the entire community.
The unique aspect of this festival lies in its organization: each year, a local committeeโformed by those born in a specific yearโtakes on the burden and honor of setting up the three days of celebrations. It is a generational relay that keeps tradition alive and renews each edition with fresh ideas, while respecting established rites. Concerts, shows, and stalls are centered around Piazza Risorgimento, the beating heart of the events.
The common thread remains religious: liturgical celebrations and processions in honor of Saint Vincent Ferrer and Saint Benedict the Abbot mark the days, recalling the ancient history of the Marsica territory, where popular devotion has been passed down from generation to generation. San Benedetto dei Marsi is built on the site of ancient Marruvium, the capital of the Marsi people, and preserves a deep historical memory.
Alongside the sacred dimension, the evenings in the square offer musical performances with bands and tribute acts, moments dedicated to the age-group committees that have organized the event over the years, and shows for children and families. There is no shortage of social and charitable initiatives, such as free health screenings dedicated to prevention, a sign of a festival that also looks after the well-being of the community.
The Patronal Feast of San Benedetto dei Marsi has become a reference point not only for the town's inhabitants but for the entire Marsica area and inland Abruzzo. Those visiting San Benedetto dei Marsi during these days will find a lively and hospitable town, where religious tradition, local gastronomy, and live music blend into an authentic community celebration.
The "Born in 1986" Festival Committee curated the 2026 edition, scheduled from Saturday, June 6th to Monday, June 8th in Piazza Risorgimento, with a rich calendar of religious, cultural, social, and musical initiatives.
The opening evening on Saturday, June 6th featured Brennero 66, the official tribute band to Pooh, with a concert dedicated to the greatest hits of the historic Italian group. Sunday, June 7th was the "Festival of the Classes," an evening that brought together the ten age-group committees that have organized the festivities over the last decade. Monday, June 8th, the final day, featured performances by students of "Lo Scrigno del Canto" directed by Jimmy Guglielmi, as well as free health screenings for prevention, in collaboration with the "I Girasoli" association.
All accompanied by religious celebrations in honor of the patron saints.
