The patronal feast of Venere dei Marsi featuring flower carpets, processions, and grand musical evenings

The Madonna del Carmine Festival is the highlight of the summer in Venere dei Marsi, a small village in the municipality of Pescina, located in the heart of the Marsica plateau in the province of L'Aquila. The Madonna del Carmine is the community's patron saint, traditionally celebrated around July 16th, the day the Church honors the Blessed Virgin Mary of Mount Carmel. For this occasion, the village comes alive with music, entertainment, tradition, and spirituality, striking the perfect balance between religious observance and local festivities typical of Abruzzo.
Among the most beloved symbols of the festival are the infiorate (flower carpets). Volunteers and devotees create intricate floral displays along Via Monte Carmelo, the route taken by the statue of the Madonna during the July 16th procession. In recent years, this tradition has been joined by an original crochet flower display, which decorates the steps of Piazza Madonna del Carmine, creating a scenic effect highly appreciated by visitors. The procession, accompanied by a brass band and the entire community, remains the most intense moment of devotion.
Beyond the religious dimension, the festival offers a vibrant entertainment program. Evenings take place in the heart of the village, between Piazza Madonna del Carmine and Piazza Battaglione Alpini, featuring live music, children's entertainment, DJ sets, and shows. The grand finale traditionally features a major concert followed by fireworks: in 2025, the stage hosted artist Fabio Rovazzi, drawing a large crowd from across the Marsica region.
The festival is organized by the Comitato Feste Venere with the support of the Pescina Municipal Administration and is part of the broader Estate Pescinese (Pescina Summer) calendar, which hosts music, culture, sports, and traditional events from July to September. Visitors to Venere dei Marsi during these days will find a welcoming village, excellent local cuisine, and the warm atmosphere of Abruzzese town festivals. Admission to all events is free.
The 2026 edition of the Madonna del Carmine Festival in Venere dei Marsi (Pescina) is included in the Estate Pescinese 2026 calendar presented by the Municipal Administration. As of today, however, the exact dates and the detailed program of the 2026 edition have not yet been announced.
