Saint John the Baptist, Patron Saint of Colletorto

Colletorto, a village in lower Molise in the province of Campobasso, known for its Angevin Tower, celebrates its patron saint Saint John the Baptist on August 29th, the day the Church commemorates his martyrdom. It is the main religious festival of the village, eagerly awaited by the entire community.

A Program Between Faith and Celebration

The patronal feast combines the religious program with the recreational one. In the preceding days, a preparatory triduum is held with the recitation of the rosary and mass; August 29th is dedicated to solemn celebrations, with the first mass in the morning and the solemn mass in the afternoon, followed by the procession with the statue of the saint along Corso Vittorio Emanuele and the streets of the center. The day concludes with fireworks in Largo Angioino and musical performances.

Identity and Return to Roots

The feast of Saint John the Baptist is much more than a liturgical observance: it is a moment of strong identity for Colletorto and for the many emigrants who return to the village during the summer.
